So, canonically Ryll seems to be an extremely complex language where even minor variations in pronunciation can change the meanings of things drastically. According to Wookiepedia, a twi’lek friend of Wedge Antilles refused to use the basic pronunciation and called him Wedgan’tilles, which sounded like ‘slayer of stars’ in Ryll, while the basic pronunciation meant ‘one so foul as to induce vomiting in a rancor.’ Wookiepedia also says that Twi’lek names mash first and last names together (like in Wedgan’tilles), they just separate them out again when interacting with other species (Like Aayla Secura might be Aaylas’ecura on Ryloth). Also, Twi’leks usinf a split version of a Twi’lek’s name can be a sign of them being exiled or cast out, apparently—exiles are only referred to with their given and family names split apart, or something like that. Twi’leks select first names to complement their family names and make minor alterations in pronunciation in order to create specific meaning, changing the stressed on syllables and stuff, it’s all very deliberate and Wookiepedia explains it better than I do. So most Twi’leks have two forms of their names, the split version and the combined version. To use my own OC as an example, the two forms would be Shori Yoni and Shoriyoni.

That’s all canon (unless I’ve misremembered something, I can’t be bothered to check Wookiepedia right now to make certain.

My headcanon that builds on that is the idea that among communities of Twi’lek slaves, they have three forms of their names. Slaves give their children names that have meanings indicating how downtrodden and sad and hopeless they are, in the combined form—however, they have secret names that with a tiny bit of pronunciation alteration, speak of parents’ hopes for their children if ever they see a future where they are free, in addition to the galactic standard ‘first and family names split apart form.’ So, to come up with some entirely fake examples with totally made up non-canon-to-Ryll-at-all meanings, say a slave with the family name Niva names her daughter Miyan. Miy’aniva might mean something like ‘heavily burdened’, but Miya’iva could mean ‘singing for joy.’ Or something like that. Nobody yell at me if there are real-fake words in Ryll that mean things I’ve assigned to my name I just made up, that was a two second example case.
