The tragedy of Marinette Dupain Cheng is that being ladybug is extremely bad for her precisely because sheâs so good at it
Miraculous Ladybug is about what if you gave a girl with extreme anxiety the superhuman capability to actually prepare for every scenario of What Could Go Wrong
some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, âwhatâs the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?â and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is âunofficialâ, and we know thatâs not the right word, but itâs the only word we can come up withâŚuntil finally itâs like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is âartificialâ.
I couldn't remember the word "doorknob" ten minutes ago.
ok but the onelook thesaurus will save your life, i literally could not live without this website

Idk where the idea of letting the juniors "make their own decisions" and "have complete independence" came from, but that isn't going to happen, and it shouldn't because they're literal children. Lan Wangji was canonically hanging out close enough to descend nobly into the fight as soon as a flare went up. Wen Ning was clinging to the underside of a boat in water. Jiang Cheng literally has Jiang disciples in Jin clothes and he still follows Jin Ling around like an extremely cranky tiger. Postcanon no one is letting the juniors do anything by themselves. Lan Wangji is folding all of himself into a cave an arm-length wide to keep an eye out for flares. Wen Ning is hanging from branches like a big koala. Jiang Cheng is snorkeling all over lakes and rivers. They all know the other two are there but dead clans have nothing on protecting your last remaining family (Lan Wangji is mad mad because he's the odd one out among them). And Wei Wuxian is pretending to be cool so the boys let him tag along. They're all helicopter parents, sorry not sorry.
Now this is badly edited, but I did what I could, but the noses for the new ATLA movie have been bothering me immensely. All the noses look so bleh. I know the art style in general is very different from the series, but the noses are just SOOOOO different. I feel like this would have made a ton more sense and makes the character animation feel more in line with the original series. Had to see what it would look like for Aang and Katara at least.

my controversial opinion is I donât think Zuko was confused by âmy first girlfriend turned into the moonâ
he was there during siege of the North. he infiltrated the spirit oasis. he has an uncle who studies spirits and the spirit world. he watched the sky go dark then the moon suddenly reappear like everyone else in the entire world did. and most importantly he watched zhao get eaten by a giant godzilla fish spirit.
his entire life since he saw that beam of blue-white light in the south pole has been âthis day has already been so goddamn weirdâ
The only really new information was that that was Sokkaâs girlfriend
Important opinion in the tags that I need to have be part of the post:
Also, Iroh was there? He literally watched Sokka make out with the moon spirit. And you want to tell me that a romantic sap like him would not have immediately told Zuko about this romantic tragedy? Please, Zuko has known about this for ages, he just knows that this is not an acceptable situation in which to say âyeah, I know.â
Sokka: âMy girlfriend turned into the moon.â
Zuko: âI know.â âYes.â âShe sure did.â âUh huh.â âTell me something new.â âAre we still talking about that?â âThatâs rough, buddy.â
[image: tags by samwisethebold: #itâs not that he doesnât get what sokka means #itâs that how on earth do you respond to that]
When you put it like that, this is actually a legendary display of tact on Zukoâs part
Genuinely one of my least favourite fanon things that people often believe (or just say) about MDZS is the idea that Lan Wangji was waiting for Wei Wuxian in those thirteen years. Like, I know it's fun for jokes and all but one of the most crushing parts about all of that time is that Wei Wuxian literally was dead for thirteen years and there was literally no conceivable hope of him returning.
Like, by no means am I trying to weigh up the MXTX love interests' separation periods (as I like to think of them), but Hua Cheng had hope that he would find Xie Lian - he had so much hope that he actively searched for eight hundred years for him before he found him. Luo Binghe was able to bring Shen Qingqiu back, was in the midst of doing so when the mushroom body situation happen and then (while it wasn't Luo Binghe who did it) did bring him back.
Wei Wuxian died. Like straight up, no coming back, impossible to see him again, died. And I sometimes feel like saying that Lan Wangji was waiting kind of undermines the fact that this was a soul-crushing thing, and this was just going to be the rest of his life. There literally was no fucking shot of Wei Wuxian coming back in anyone's even remote comprehension, and the fact that he did come back was a fucking miracle in and of itself.
Lan Wangji mourned for those thirteen years. Hua Cheng searched, Luo Binghe (it's been a while so call me out if I'm wrong) was almost in denial over Shen Qingqiu's death even though he comprehended the sacrifice so he planned, but Lan Wangji mourned, and was going to mourn for the rest of his life. He just had to get used to the fact that he would never, ever get to see the love of his life again. There wasn't even a body to bury. It was just the memories and the gradual, slow descent of those memories disappearing with aging.
ALSO now that I'm thinking about it, the fact that he couldn't even talk to anyone else about it. Obviously, there's this whole thing of memories being kept alive through like sharing and talking about them, but Wei Wuxian cemented himself as basically a taboo subject. A monster who is only talked about to scare people or to curse out his name. Those who remember him can't or won't talk about him for one reason or another, and that means that Lan Wangji is left all alone, mourning someone who nobody even cares to talk about, and that will be the rest of his life. He has come to terms with the fact that he will die with the faint memory of Wei Wuxian's smile and that's all.
And, once again, this isn't trying to make a competition out of the separation periods, I could just as easily talk about how Hua Cheng's despair of not being able to find Xie Lian but knowing that he is alive somewhere (or is he? Has he gone? Faded away? Is Hua Cheng just looking for a memory?). I could talk about that desperation that Luo Binghe felt at losing the only person he had ever loved and been loved by, who had sacrificed himself to save him when he needed him most, who gave so many mixed signals, and then needing to get him back by any means necessary. But this post was borne of me being tired of the 'waiting' label being applied to Lan Wangji's mourning period.
Wei Wuxian was never, ever meant to come back. Lan Wangji was going to spend the rest of his life mourning a man who nobody else would ever talk about, memories fading until it was hard to pick apart what was actual memory and what was just his idealistic daydreams. Do you think he was waiting to die, sometimes? He never would, but do you think he just...passively waited for it sometimes, when he was alone and holding those few small reminders of the man he gave his heart to? Who he failed? Anyway. Lan Wangji just makes me so very sad and so very sick and I love him dearly.
Honestly. Honestly Ed vs Scar in episode 5 is striking me fresh, right now. Like by this point we've obviously established we're in a battle shonen by now. We know Ed gets into fights. He's scuffled with Cornello. He's a boy who knows how to hold a sharp object and use it.
But I think FMA does also does an excellent job choosing when to not let Ed come out on top. We just had the Nina episode and now Ed is in the middle of processing his first "catastrophic failure to save someone" type of failure since attempting to bring his mom back. He's dealing with a low that's absolutely hampering his abilities and the tonal shift hits for me in the way that 1) he doesn't notice Scar's initial attack against him (Al has to pull him away) and 2) Ed absolutely freezes up just thinking "This is bad."
This is, perhaps, baby's first "someone is coming at you with the full, concentrated, explicit intention of killing you" and Ed is so genuinely out of his depth with it. He really does try. He gets immediately bested. He's staring at a situation where Al is directly in harm's way. And Ed just lies down to die like a dog...
He does better later. He learns from this, later. But he's so young in this. It just hits.
#this is scar's lowest point to me#he is attacking a panicking child#one who is visibly too young to have taken part in the genocide#he is pointlessly lashing out at the shadow of the war#and he feels FULLY justified. FULL 'soldier of god' mode#ed begs him to spare his brother and does this unbalance him?#does this remind him of his own brother?#it does not. he is unmoved.#he answers calmly that he has no quarrel with ed's brother#it is sooooooo clear that he SEES HIMSELF as perfectly calm and reasonable#when in fact he is being so completely insane.#he is about to slaughter a child on his knees#later in central when they face off again he'll be a lot more unbalanced#(having crossed paths with his master and all)#and it's part of why ed shielding winry from him WILL hit this time#my argument is also that ed begging for his brother to be spared doesn't hit for scar#because scar is in the mindset of 'why should i listen to your pleas when no one listened to mine'#(not that he even had the chance to beg)#ed shielding winry however#is making scar realize that Winry Is Him#except nobody was there to stop HIM pulling the trigger#and committing to lethal revenge#that is the crucial moment where he could have been saved#but no one was there to save him#from that moment on he spirals completely#and when he meets winry again he THINKS he's at his lowest point#calls himself human garbage and says he deserves to die#since she was able to remain dignified in the face of suffering and he was not#but that is not his lowest point. in fact the fact that he's clawing his way out of that pit is remarkable#(someone like wrath for instance never even tried)
@parkersgeorg
No because you don't understand. Charles has had nearly half a dozen hellish races after the spring break, had his brakes changed mid season, a software update that fucked up the car, had two DNFs, the entirety of the media telling the world that Ferrari had made a mistake in re-signing him and that he should play second driver to his teammate. And what did he do? He won the British grand prix - a race where has faced heartbreak multiple times in the past, a race where nobody wanted him to win, on a track where his teammate is famously GOATed, all as the 16th Ferrari driver to ever win Silverstone which also happened to be Ferrari's 250th win in F1. He figured out a car that was developed against his preferences in less than a month. I am so so incredibly proud of him. Charles fucking Leclerc the driver that you are. It's been an absolute honor being your fan and I will never stop believing in you
I think the fandom reaction to the extras shows something very interesting about the way fanfiction tropes often only work when they are in fanfiction: that is, when they are in direct conversation with the canon work, rather than part of it.
Because when we as fans write fix-its (visiting the modern world and SY gets to have both SVSSS and his modern family, the System's actually well inentioned all along, etc) we are in conversation with the original work. We are going up to it while it cries and shows us it's cuts and scrapes and giving them a clean and kissing it better. We are, even by writing it out, acknowledging the real pain in the work.
But when that sort of fix-it gets applied by canon to canon? It's like giving a crying toddler a lolly to calm them (money) while you rush to get a bandage only to turn around and discover the kid was never really hurt and they feel really proud of themselves for pretending to be in pain so good when everything was really fine. There's no catharsis, only the feeling of being duped.
Because when canon additions do this, the author - although I very much doubt MXTX meant to - is basically saying "none of it mattered. None of the pain mattered, non of the moral complexity and depth and hard choices were real".
Oh, Airplane had to choose between MBJ and his real life? No he and SY can have both! Oh, SY might have trouble being gay in the real world? Nah, his family's pretty cool with it!, Oh, so there was actual death and grief and consequences? Don't be silly, can't have downers in this! Oh, so the original novel said that the reason PIDW went downhill was because of money issues in the real world? Money issues, what are those? Obviously MBJ and LBH can get servants and manors from nowhere! Wouldn't want them to slum it like dirty poors!
Okay, so if you were never going to punch me, why the fuck did you pretend this was a boxing ring?
And worse? By ripping the depth from Shang Qinghua - by making it actually Shen Yuan's world, by making him a vessel that a story was told through rather than the person who created it - MXTX has stripped her novel of one of the most important themes in it: the complexity of the act of creation and how it can become corrupted.
Because by making Airplane actually powerless, actually sneered at by the System, actually not good enough, and actually not in control of the story; not the creator of the world? MXTX has ripped the theme of Creator vs Reader and Creator/Editor vs External Social Pressures from her work. And that underlying theme - that subtle meta-discussion about the state of the writing industry -was what separated SVSSSS out from so much other meaningless wish-fulfillment isekai slop.
Because until this new extra came out and retconned it all away, SVSSS was a book with something to say.
And now it's just another hollow, meaningless, mean-spirited parody of a thousand other works just like it.

a minor headcanon that I will die defending is that reigen initially assumed that mobâs supposed âpsychic powersâ were just how he rationalized his autism to himself. like hereâs an obviously autistic kid, one reigen clocks immediately because heâs, well, reigen, and heâs talking about extra sensory perception and having powers he canât control, powers that are scary. obviously, he assumes, this is something the kid picked up from his parents, a way for him to rationalize his alienation from other childrenâ that no, youâre not âdifferentâ, youâre special (not even going into the parents who think their autistic children are like, aliens) and the other kids can see that youâre special and so they treat you like youâre weird and creepy and they donât invite you to play and they whisper behind your back but itâs fine, because one day theyâll see how special you really are. and adult autistic reigen arataka, who was also probably-definitely bullied as a child, decides to nip that thought in the bud and gives the whole spiel, that no, âpsychic powersâ (autism) donât make you special, and yes, they do make you different, and thatâs fine because everyoneâs different, and at the end of the day you have agency and you get to decide the kind of person youâll be, so choose to be a kind one, and he sees this kid hanging off his every word as he tells him the kind of stuff he wishes someone had told him when he was so little and alone, and he mentally pats himself on the back and hypes himself up for another cigarette.
and then the kid makes a teacup float in front of him and heâs like oh. damn. can you kill ghosts
i feel like if you stabbed an angel the blood trail would look like this
Hey. Hey!
Xie Lian: sees a youth with very long legs that gives him flashbacks of Hua Cheng's jingling legs
Xie Lian: sees the youth is also wearing all red and is ridiculously knowledgeable on heavenly stuff
Xie Lian: knowing damn well that it is probably Hua Cheng himself,
"So friend, do you know about Hua Cheng?"
"Oh, he is called Xueyu Tanhua, how is that?"
"How does Hua Cheng look like?"
"What is his weakness?"
Xie Lian is so damn funny for pulling this off
He also compares Hua Cheng to a sharp sword unsheathed which is a neat way of calling him hot lol
He even has another separate paragraph describing how "the youth" is so attractive that he was too flustered to face him and turned away but then thinks they are too far away from each other and leans in again, he is so down bad
dance with me
Yesterday my little brother told me something very sweet and touching, that when he was a kid and had nightmares about monsters chasing him or whatever he would be able to end the nightmare by finding me in the dream and I would protect him by fighting off the zombies, or carrying him away. This is adorable, and makes me feel like the greatest older sibling in the world, but the hilarious thing is that when I was a kid I had nightmares of needing to save him from zombies and such. so many dreams where he was in trouble and I needed to save him. Like my nightmares began where his ended. Low key I think he mastered the ability to psychically transfer his nightmare to me as a child and I'm kind of annoyed with him.
