I saw someone reblog this dismissing it as AI despite the fact they're 1 click away from a search engine. "Rosetta Nebula" is all you'd have to type. Perhaps the biggest travesty with ai images is going to be robbing people of their wonder for what's actually possible in the universe and continuing to shrink their bubble of understanding based on whether they believe it at a glance.
The image has been colorized differently above but the Rosetta Nebula is real and actually looks like that.
it looks less like a human skull than it does Homo heidelbergensis:
Look, it formed a long time ago, it had to work with the reference it had
wow I’d love to live in a world where food, water, and warm shelter weren’t considered premium content!
bro LMFAOOOO
this is actually an excellent illustration of why The Problem Is Capitalism in the systemic sense
everything they said is absolutely correct. it is the attitude which got them so widely used. it let them defeat other search engines in the early period where nobody knew how to make money on the internet. google was one of *many* companies in the early web to adopt a mindset like this, on the digital frontier where anything seemed possible.
most of them, you'll note, are fucking gone.
after the dot com bubble burst and web 2.0 started to be a thing, google was faced with new competition from a series of increasingly sophisticated social media websites whose business models increasingly involved collecting user information and selling ads with it, and also creating walled gardens you didn't need to leave to find new content. they exploded in popularity and changed the way investors saw the internet
and the reality is that the websites which did not do what google did, which did not switch to models similar to what google used, they withered and died, or increasingly became marginal and irrelevant. the people who did do shit like this, who did do what google did, now own the entire internet.
there is not a world where 'good google' persists. there is the world we live in, where they chose to do this, and there's the world where they didn't, and somebody else did it instead.
"don't be evil" was not a principle that can survive capitalism. no principle can. every single time there is a decision to be made under capitalism, where one path is the right thing to do, and one path is evil but will make money, the second path will be what happens and the person who does it will be rewarded, even if 99.9% of people who have the opportunity turn it down.
In fact, the more people refuse to do something that could make money, the greater the market share will be collected by the defectors from the social contract, and they will be able to use that money and power to out-compete and strangle those who did the right thing. doing evil shit nobody else can stomach is a surefire moneymaker.
thinking about that one wordless calvin and hobbes sunday strip thats just calvins dad ditching his work to go play in the snow... its going to make me cry
ohhhh my god
”#I LOVE that the comic keeps the lens on Calvin’s dad to the degree of not even showing Calvin’s excited face when his dad surprises him, #You can see the joy and excitement of the moment in his pose and reflected in his dad’s expression, #it’s a great little artistic decision, #I realized what gets me about it it’s the hat covering his dad’s head and hair so the dad just looks like Calvin. #you don’t HAVE to show Calvin! You already see him in the dad becoming a kid for a moment you only have to draw that once”

Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin (2018), dir. Arwen Curry
The next line of her speech is also great: “Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.”
Hey nerds, who has that comic that's a group of animals and they all bring an ingredient for soup except the frog who's like "oh no I didn't bring anything D:" but then everyone is like "you have a spoon and you're hungry! There's plenty for everyone!"
we are still in need of this comic

What is brazils viewpoint on illegal immigrants. Do they deport?
In Brazil, all immigrants have the same rights to education, health and work, whether they are refugees or not.
There are also some ordinances that provide for residence authorization for some specific nationalities.
ex haiti, venezuela, syria, afghanistan
There are no illegal immigrants. they may be in an irregular situation in the country, that being, not have an appropriate documentation for their situation. To live regularly in Brazil, you must have a residence permit. Not having the right document does not make a person a criminal, as this infraction is administrative. They will be able to resolve this situation and then be allowed to reside in Brazil. (source in pt)
The Constitution prohibits the extradition of native Brazilians and foreigners convicted of political or opinion crimes. Naturalized Brazilians can only be extradited for common crimes committed before naturalization or in the case of drug trafficking.
Deportation, provided for in Law 13,445/2017, known as the Migration Law, consists of the compulsory removal of a person in an irregular migration situation in the country. It results from an administrative procedure and is preceded by personal notification with an express list of irregularities and a deadline for regularizing the situation, in order to avoid deportation.
Also provided for in the Migration Law, expulsion is an administrative measure of compulsory removal of a migrant or visitor from Brazilian territory and impediment of re-entry into the country, for a determined period. What can give rise to expulsion is conviction for genocide or crimes against humanity, war or aggression, as well as the commission of an intentional crime, when there is intent, punishable by imprisonment. (source in pt)
Brazil has progressive and open immigration laws that allow migrants and refugees to quickly receive regularized status and apply for formal employment.
(Source in english)
Ministry of justice will restringe entry of immigrants without visa (in Brazil) source in pt
that's all i could find. there was a rise in deportation during 2020 (covid), 26901 when in 2019 it was 36. it is not usual.
the only personal experience i can share is that a lot of haitians live here in my city after 2018 and a lot of venezuelans arrive constantly, some start living here. and yeah never heard of them being deported from here personally
ARE YOU ASKING BECAUSE OF BRUNO MARS???????????
THEY'RE TRYING TO MAKE HIM A BRAZILIAN CITIZEN HE CAN STAY. BTW.
@latinotiktok
As far as I remember if you pop in brazil n start living here for years and never regularise your situation what happens when you get to fix it is that you have to pay an administrative fee that is like. 6 BRL
My ex boyfriend was Irish and he had to have his appendix removed. Our healthcare system is universal, so they removed it for him, had him stay in a hospital for a week, 100% free of costs as it would be for any Brazilian citizen, even though he wasn't legal, didn't have a visa/permit to stay or anything.
