βHomer does not flinch at showing the hardships and grief that come with being a warrior. But the lives of the Homeric heroes are full of meaning: they live in danger, yes, but they live with a fullness and intensity of purpose that it is not possible to match in the everyday world. In action, they are united within themselves and, at least in their own minds, united with the natural world, which (they believe) values what they embody: strength, courage, and beauty. Though the lives of the Homeric heroes are often shortβHector and Achilles both die youngβthey are replete with meaning. There is no danger that the true warrior will die feeling that he has never lived. The middle-class man, itβs been said, is the man who desires to live as long as possible. But is what he experiences in that quest really lifeβat least when you compare it to what Hector and Achilles enjoyed?β

hey girl its me. the sensitive feminist boy. i just want to say tha *i am carried away by large birds before i can say anything else*
you have to fuck that man to death.
if u had to give like a top five movies fundamental to watch for u As A Person like. what moveys wld they be? saintdymphnagf Canon so 2 speak
ooooh great and difficult question!! saintdymphnagf Canon hm. hmm. going to try and actually keep this to five but it's going to be. Hard.
1. The Last Unicorn. one of my very first favorite films, longest lasting impact, it 100% is a csa narrative/allegory as we all know
2. Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. much more recent ""discovery"", literally my (general) platonic ideal of slow cinema. made me so crazy insane watching it with how suffocatingly claustrophobic it is that i had to go take a walk after. amazing.
3. Stalker + Solaris. yes i'm cheating with a tarkovsky double feature here but they have overlapping themes (obsession, what it means to be human etc etc) and i couldn't pick just one. and honestly both are key to the Canon for sure for sure
4. Videodrome. i π body horror i π cronenberg. and also i have a truly insane amount to say about videodrome as it relates to things like televangelism coercive control touch politics etc etc etc i love it i love a rich narrative text. especially when it's violent
5. Cecil B. Demented. don't think i need to explain this one ifykyk
admittedly also could have added basically anything by hitchcock, fellini, pasolini, (early) bergman, kurosawa (both akira and kiyoshi), pta, arturo ripstein.... i just. i like movies.
actuallyyyyy reminds me that i made a list about this specific question on letterboxd ten million years ago (and this prompted me to finally update it again which was desperately needed)
