#Repost @thechrisdo @download.ins --- Iโm overcome with emotion at the events that have transpired over the last few days. The Amy Cooper incident, slaying of George Floyd, and now the protests and violence that is erupting across America arenโt even the most alarming part. The worst part is that this is emblematic of the systemic racism, bigotry and injustice that has existed in this country since itโs inception. I donโt normally speak or write when Iโm emotional. Itโs not my character to do so. I also donโt want to be a distraction against the Black voices right now. But I also canโt stay silent. As a person of color, first generation immigrant to America, Iโve been cursed at, picked on, and ridiculed purely based on my appearance, customs and culture. I have been profiled by police. I have been held at gun point because I fit the description of a โcar jackerโ while riding home on my skateboard through an affluent neighborhood. Not going to lie, I was scared but knew that no real harm would come to me as long as I complied. Given whatโs been going on with the increasingly regular occurrence of police brutality, I have to wonder, would I be here today if I were a few shades darker? That is the scary reality that Black people donโt have the luxury to imagine. By no means, am I condoning the violence, and criminal activities of some opportunistic individuals. I think itโs wrong. Iโm also sensitive to the anger, pain and grief some people are feeling right now. This is a wake up call, that the system we live in isnโt designed for all people. My hope is that long after the fires have gone out that a plan to organize and mobilize to make real and lasting changes will take place. I donโt know how many more slayings our society can take. #blacklivesmatter #justiceforgeorgefloyd #icantbreathe #blm #weareinthistogether (at United Skates of america) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA8AsjABPt8/?igshid=1rql9iaer5o8f
