Ameth was walking up and down in the small cell, furious.
Alright, maybe she shouldn't have straight up threatening that journalist, but Bakugou was 15 for fuck sake, he almost died when that slimy creature attacked him and grown adults were envying him for it??
She stopped circling, taking a deep breath.
The hero commission wanted her gone, and she need to calm down or she'll give them more excuse to keep her locked her up, which is something she could not afford in that moment.
She could only have a low profile and hoping the charges will drop.
«New here?» the prisoner in the cell next to her chuckled.
Ameth's eye snapped open. She recognize that voice.
She walked towards the bars. «So are you, technically, didn't they let you out of the hospital like a week ago?».
The man with too many bandages around his body looked up., «fair enough».
Ameth slide her arms out of the bars, resting on them, «How are you feeling?».
«Well you're sort of my brother in law».
Chizome's eyes got a little more open. «Ah, you're Sayomi sister» he concluded, «she told you about us?».
Ameth nodded, «I knew you guys knew each other, so one day I simply asked her and, well, she figured a little help wouldn't hurt» she explained, «so, how are you feeling?».
«It hurts when I breath too hard» Chizome grunted.
She hummed in acknowledgement, and the two remained in silence for few seconds, before he spoke again.
Ameth shrugged, «I threatened a journalist».
He smiled, raising an eyebrow, «really? What happened?».
She sighed and turned around, leaning her back on the bars, her elbow peeking out, «he implied a mentee of mine was favorited because he was attacked by a villain, so I told him that if he was so jealous of almost dying I could put a bullet in his brain».
Chizome laughed, and basing on his grimace, he regretted it immediately. «Well done» he just said.
Ameth smiled at him and made a nod.
After a while, he looked down from the ceiling, «you know me and Sayomi broke up, right?».
Ameth just raised an eyebrow, «you two didn't broke up, she dumped your ass because you nearly killed Tensei», she replied, which just made the man nod in regret.
«The regret I see on your face is for nearly killing an innocent man or for losing her?», she joked, sliding down for sitting on the floor.
«Partially the first, mostly the second» Chizome replied, and she could tell he wasn't lying.
That response made her think of Tenko, and she couldn't help but smile.
«Cool, you wanna talk about the partial guilt?».
«What are you, a therapist?».
And that made her think of Dabi and Toga, «on my free time».
He looked at her with a unserious glare.
«But seriously, you didn't need to injure Tensei that much, you could have just knock him out and tie him up to something, I mean your quirk can fucking paralyze people» she said, moving her hands.
Chizome nodded, «I know, your sister always warned me against the black or white thinking I tend to have».
Ameth chuckled, «we love a self aware man» she joked.
«Is Ingenium alive?» he asked after a short pause, his voice low.
She looked down. She liked Tensei, she was saddened when she learned what happened to him.
«He remained paralyzed from the waist down» she then answered, and Chizome sighed softly and nodded in acknowledgement. «I'm sorry to hear it».
«It's not to me you should apologize to, and even then, words are meaningless».
He paused, but then he nodded slowly.
«So, what are you gonna do now? Hoping your dad will pull some string and pull you out?»
Ameth whipped her head for looking at him, «Wait, Sayomi told you who-»
«Nah, I figured it out» he smirked.
«Cool, but no, I don't appreciate when my dad try to resolve my problems, I mean, I'm 20, not a kid» she spoke, a soft sigh leaving her mouth, «but if the charges don't drop there isn't much I can do, I mean, I could kill some rapist, I'm already here anyway».
Chizome looked startled at her words. «Not so heroic, are you?».
Ameth scrunched her nose. She wasn't an hero, morally, and legally too, the hero commission took away her license the year before because she always refused to make interview and make them look good.
Her expression seemed to confuse him, though.
«You don't like heroes?».
«...so you don't like your dad? You got daddy issues or something?»
Ameth snorted, «just because my dad is one of the few good ones, it doesn't mean the system isn't corrupted and built on oppression».
Now there was a glint of amusement and curiosity in Chizome's eyes. «Hm? And who does the hero society oppress?».
She knew he already knew the answer, but still, «the unlucky, those with a mutation quirk, or people who have quirks they don't like, criminals, people who are too free, people that doesn't look they want, people who doesn't love who they want».
Ameth rested her head against the bars, looking up at the ceiling.
«We're all one bad day away from being casted out and framed as villain, everyone expect rich men who sit on our back».
She clenched her fists, anger rising up again. You know what? That journalist fucking deserved it.
