Hello!! I was scrolling through your blog (I just reread ifmlam for the 10th time last night oops) and I was wondering if you had any original work you've published- i saw you mention years back being nearly done with a novel and im curious if that went anywhere!
Ive been a big fan of how you write for years now (since...2017 about ha, i think thats when i first read whatever was posted of ifmlam) and ive been wanting to read more published novels lately!
so unfortunately I have..... a little over 200,000 words of original writing (including one complete draft one of a novel-novel and one nearly complete final edited draft of a novella!! the latter, sic semper, is mostly likely to see the light of day first as a series of ten some-odd web novels that once I finish the whole batch I can start releasing and nOT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT WHEN MY NEXT UPDATE WILL BE WRITTEN BC THEY'LL ALL BE DONE) scattered across six or seven overarching projects and I'm Extremely Picky about releasing my original stuff before I think it's Done so none of it has seen the light of day
the good news is I'm going full independent publishing when I do, have figured out the layout software that I want to use, my mother is EXTREMELY excited to try to act as copyeditor, have hired a friend to do covers and another one developmental editing, the moment that things are Done and I am Happy With The Writing there is not going to be several years of querying for an agent and then Attempting To Sell It To A Publishing House and going through Publishing House Mandated Edits, it'll be free/pay what you want ebooks and print on demand paperbacks released immediately
I.... really thought/ wanted to have the whole sic semper series starting to come out this year! and for a very short while it seemed like things were actually going to get better/ stable! and then they crashed. and I am currently in "working 13hr days constantly overtime" hell, there does not seem to be any clear end in sight, and just.... There Is No Time At The End Of The Day For Writing After That. Maybe One Day. But I Genuinely Don't Know When That'll Happen Next.
if you're looking for good books, though,
I'm always biased towards https://ejadelomax.com/ for good solid heartbreaking cozy fiction (ifmlam interlude chapters were full on inspired by interlude chapters in the Beanstalk series) (and while it is a podcast not a book I did act as science consultant / help write one episode of Second Star To The Left), and then continuing on "if you're in the mood for cozy" The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard is INCREDIBLE
if you're in the mood for fun, tongue-in-cheek scifi I highly recommend Redshirts by John Scalzi (I like his other stuff too, by which I mean I've also read Starter Villain and had a good time, but Redshirts is by far my favorite)
and then my current Genre Of Choice for what I am writing re original fiction and thus what has been my go-to Reading is "fucked up evil empire lesbian space opera" which is a VIBE not a Full Requirement, the three series in order of fucked up-ness that I am Obsessed with there is A Memory Called Empire, The Traitor Baru Cormorant, and Ninefox Gambit
so. lots of good things to read! and hey maybe if a miracle job offer comes through that pays me enough that I can write again there will one day be things from me on the list too! but right now I have the ability to show up at work, sleep, and not much else.
