"By getting rid of paper archives and replacing them with digital archives, they can erase history. One day, you'll encounter the message "the page does not exist," and the next day, you'll see them deny that it ever really happened. " - Julian Assange

Laziness Does Not Exist explores the psychological underpinnings of the โlaziness lie,โ including its origins from the Puritans and how it has continued to proliferate as digital work tools have blurred the boundaries between work and life. Using in-depth research, Price explains that people today do far more work than nearly any other humans in history yet most of us often still feel we are not doing enough.
Instead of viewing laziness as something we need to fix or overcome with caffeine or longer work hours, social psychologist Devon Price says
โThere is something about being very rich and insulated from the consequences of your actions that makes you solipsistic. You cannot make billions of dollars without hurting lots of people. And you canโt hurt lots of people without, in some sense, believing that theyโre not really people.โ

So this is not a plea for money. This is something that surprised me, and chatting with people on discord, they were unaware of as well.
Discovered last year I couldnโt look at my 2015 MacBook Air without it triggering nausea and migraines, and figured the screen died. Have been getting by on my phone, but concluded I really need a laptop again.
Saved up, realised I could afford a brand new MacBook Neo, and got one.
-And I couldnโt spend more than five minutes looking at the screen without massive eye strain, nausea, vertigo, and if I pushed it, I-need-to-lie-down-in-a-dark-room-for-hours migraines.
Looking up MacBook and Eyestrain explained what is going on. The liquid retina displays that Apple currently has uses Pulse Width Modulation or PWM. In order to give the screens a deeper depth of colour and contrast, PWM flickers between several hundred to thousand times a second.
And there is currently no way to turn it off. There are settings and apps to reduce it, but there is no way to stop the screen from flickering. Checked Apple forums, called Apple Support, and the time I could look at the screen kept shrinking. Got the laptop Tuesday, returned it Friday, today is Sunday and Iโm still dealing with a vertigo migraine.
For MacBooks, it seems to vary on the computer model and the software it uses. In retrospect, the issue with my MacBook Air started after a major software update.
And itโs not just an Apple thing. Current Windows and Android screens do the same thing. Thereโs even a Reddit for people who are sensitive to PWM flickers to help find computers and screens that wonโt trigger eyestrain and headaches.
So, yeah. This week has been a learning experience. But for those who are prone to headaches and migraines, this may be something to be aware of, cause I was not.

People like Thiel have bought into the Dark Enlightenment, which involves establishing a system of hypercapitalist corporate neo-feudalism, so the answer to that question is they're actively planning for a permanently destitute underclass cause it's a core part of what they want the future to look like
