I deliberately avoided counting series as much as possible. There are exceptions, of course:

Little Women has two sequels, following the second generation with Jo's kids

The Hobbit is an (unintentional) prequel to the epic The Lord of the Rings

Peter Pan has various side books and rewrites (and is in fact a novelization of the original play that Barrie wrote)

and of course, Oz has a ridiculously long series considering the simplicity of the story and world

BUT! All of their "first" books are such iconic standalone novels that I couldn't NOT count them.

To think that he made me Sesshomaru tremble with fear just for a moment…
