Urban Disdain for the Concrete

Sister, keep that to yourself or make your own goddamn post, you are ignoring that woman’s central concern and belittling her, you don’t even think you’re doing it. Formerly childfree women who ended up having children and loving it are like detransitioners in the sense that there is nothing inherently wrong with changing your mind about having children or realizing you were mistaken about your gender identity but immediately weaponizing your indecision to tell people that the barriers to healthcare and the violations of their bodily autonomy and the way society ignores that person’s wishes is actually okay because you were wrong. Some people do know themselves.

Hey, I’m a trans man making this post. I have faced some of this bullshit but I’m well aware that cisgender women are the primary targets of this because motherhood is so forcibly intertwined with female identity in misogynistic stereotypes to the point that women who cannot get pregnant or have no desire to get pregnant and have children are seen as defective and less woman and childfree women are often demonized. As a trans man, it is often weaponized against us too, “Do not transition because what if you regret it and your husband leaves you because you cannot get pregnant and then you can’t breastfeed because you mutilated your breast which are obviously the most important part of you.” but that is because these people are transphobic and do not view us as men. We suffer under this too but post transition trans men are often ridiculed for having children instead of not having children, transphobes view it as some sort of gotcha because the ability to reproduce is so (arbitrarily) forcibly associated with womanhood. I try to alternate between gender neutral language and language that speaks about women in discussions about reproductive freedom because so much of the extreme hatred in these discussions is plainly caused by a hatred of women in particular and a belief that a woman’s worth is tied into her reproductive ability and I do believe that a cis woman’s relationship to reproduction is very different than a trans man’s relationship to reproduction, not that we are not victims of oppression but that the societal messaging is aimed directly and primarily at all that society deems to be women.

And I WANT that for everyone. I want people to be allowed to choose what I wouldn't, do what I wouldn't, because then I would be free to do what I want and need.
