my close friend from uni was a cis girl who had the audacity to wear pants and cut her hair short and like nobody at this school, a place OBSESSED with ‘respecting everyone’s gender identities,’ would call her ‘she.’ after MONTHS of this she started wearing a fucking pronoun pin to work and i dont even think that fixed it. me, im sorta androgynous; i have shaggy self-cut hair and go by a neutral name, but i always say my pronouns are she/her, and people ive worked with for months and have introduced myself in front of fifty times will STILL reflexively say ‘they’ for me. i respect the progressive circles i run in, but this IS evidence of misogyny. people’s definition of “woman” or “girl” is so narrow and high-maintenance that even the tiniest deviation from the norm gets you forcibly defeminized. but it’s a compliment, right? like who would wanna be a girl anyway?

what people don’t understand about how adhd is disabling is that it’s not just getting temporarily distracted from, like, school work or hobbies. it’s getting distracted/being unable to motivate yourself to go to the doctor, eat regularly, do hygiene tasks, etc. it’s not knowing when or how long it will take you to do something, ANYTHING, and in many cases that thing is taking a shower or keeping your house from turning into a biohazard. it’s about being fundamentally incapable of controlling your attention and focus on anything, even and especially things you need to do to survive.

doing my degree in folklore and ppl will ask "oh, what is your thesis about" and i'm like "i'm about to tell you a bunch of stuff but first and foremost i'm not going to call any of it folklore because that's an extremely loaded term and depending on the context, culture, and people, it can be considered dismissive at best or even outrageously derogatory." and they're like "but the degree is called Folklore. When is it folklore?" and I just have to be like well that shit depends.

i think i could phrase this better. "i'm not gonna call it folklore bc some people don't like that word" makes it sound like the nuance ends at the word itself and that i avoid the use as a simple platitude when in fact it is much deeper than that. but i suppose i don't have the ability to articulate it at 10:36 pm on a Monday. surprising.

There are gonna be people who won't like hearing this but if you want to live in a world where mixed marriages, families, and adoptions (particularly POC adopting outside their "race") aren't maligned and discriminated against, then you have got to get more chill about seeing someone partaking in something cultural that you don't think fits the "race" you perceive them as.
