Because.

For the probably the eighth time that evening, Sportacus swattedat Íþróttaálfurinn’s hands. “Stop messing around with your shirt. You lookfine.”

Íþró ignored his younger brother and pulled at half imaginedwrinkles anyway. “You know how Robbie is with fashion. I need to lookperfect for our first date.”

Sportacus chuckled. “You don’t know him like I do.He’ll find something to say no matter what.” 

The sun was starting to set outsidethe airship windows. Íþró stopped his nervous pacing. “Maybe this is not a goodidea,” he said, sounding almost frantic. “Maybe I should not have asked him atall. I do not even know what to say to him!” He turned toSportacus, wide eyed and desperate. “You are right— I do not know him aswell. What do I say when I see him?!”

“Ferðamaður.” Sportacus placed bothhands on Íþró’s shoulders. “You are overthinking things. This isn’t amatter of life or death. Just go out and have fun, okay?” He smiled. “Asfor what to say— trying complimenting his hair. He loves his hair.”

Nerves calmed somewhat, Íþró nodded. “Hair. Got it.”

Not long after, Íþró metRobbie by town hall. Robbie looked amazing,which made Íþró’s mouth uncooperative. “I— You look— That’s—” Robbiearched an eyebrow. Íþró blurted, “Did you do something to you hair?!”

Around the corner, hiding behind a bench, Sportacus laugheduncontrollably into his hands. 

Normally Íþróttaálfurinn respected health careprofessionals. He knew a good amount of first aid but, especially when it cameto his own safety, he gladly bowed to the reliable doctors and nurses.

Today however, he begged,pleaded, and even screamed to be let out of hishospital room. Earlier that day, Íþró had finally convinced Robbie to go waterskiing with him. An accident with another pair of skiers had landed them bothin the hospital. Íþró’s arm was broke and two fingernails on his right hand hadbeen torn off, not to mention numerous bruises. Otherwise, he was physicallyalright. 

But a dark pit of guilt andworry had settled in his stomach when he was told Robbie was in surgery a floorbelow. Now, after what felt like forever, the doctors allowed Íþró to visitRobbie.

A nurse pushed Íþró’swheelchair into the small hospital room. Íþró’s heart leapt at seeing Robbieawake. “Robbie! I am so sorry! That should never have happened and…”

The pit in his stomach grewlarger as he fully took in Robbie’s appearance. Yes he was awake; but his leftleg was in a cast, thick bandages covered his chest, one wrist was in a brace,and part of his hair had been shaved away to properly tend to a head wound. Hewas glaring at Íþró as Íþró trailed off. 

“I wish I’d never met you,”Robbie said. Then he turned his head away to face the wall.

Íþró wanted nothing more thanto rise from his wheelchair and wrap his arms around Robbie and begforgiveness. But that had been a dismissal. All Íþró could do was hold backtears and motion for the nurse to push him from the room.

It’s just vague/general enough for me to play, thank you!! I’m surprised how often people ask about this AU, considering the posts don’t get many notes. Heads up- you’ll need to have read the first Trickster AU story to get this fully.

The sky was just starting to turn a dusty orange as dawnslowly approached. Robbie leaned against the support beam of his billboard,rubbing tired eyes and breathing in the cool spring air. He had just pulledanother all-nighter trying to finish his latest project. The rest of the daywould be spent sleeping as much as he could with the children running aroundabove him but for now, he took in a fresh breath in the silence of the veryearly morning.

“You might as well come out,”Robbie said after a moment. “Illusions don’t work on me. 

Beside him, the shadow of thebillboard flickered and a creature stepped out. The hood of his hoodie coveredthe pointed ears and blond hair Robbie knew were there. The Trickster Elf stoodwith his hands in the pockets of his jeans, looking up at Robbie with a fangedsmirk.

Robbie gave him a once over. “Ithought you would be taller.”

Ten frowned. “Excuse me?”

“You’re short. I thought Elveswere tall.”

“Wha- Not all Elves look thesame, Fae!” He spat the word. Robbieignored the malice. “If we are going to judge on looks, you clearly have not slept all night.”

Robbie shrugged. “Nothingnew but I’m touched you care.” 

“And you smell like sugar.”

“You’re smothering me.” Thatearned Robbie a glare. “What are you doing here?” Robbie asked point blank. 

Ten looked out towards town, his previous ire fading. “Howcan you stand this place?”

Robbie turned to Lazytown aswell. A light was on in Pixel’s house but other than that, the town was quiet.Still. “What do you mean?”

“All these creatures hidingtheir true selves.” Ten’s voice was suddenly right behind him. Robbie jumped,clutching his chest, and looked back at Ten. The Trickster Elf grinned.

“Don’t do that!”Robbie snapped.

“There is so much magic inthis town, in these people, but none of you act on it!” Ten stated, takinga step toward Robbie. “Old bloodlines, other fae brought up as human, a halfelf— all wasting their lives being mundane and dull and lazy.”With each word, Ten advanced on Robbie. His ocean blue eyes began to glowfaintly. 

Robbie shuffled backward until his back hit the supportbeam. Perhaps this had not been a good interaction to have on zero sleep andhalf a cup of ground coffee beans. His magic was slow to respond, poolingslowly towards his fingertips. “Did you ever stop to think they aren’taware of what they are?” Robbie said, trying and failing not to sound asintimidated as he felt. “Or that they’re trying to run away from it?”

“Creatures like us are betterthan humans in every way,” Ten said. “They should have more pride. Theyshould act on who they are.”

“Who are you to decide thatfor them?”

“Someone who is tired of hiding.” Ten reached out to grab Robbiebut Robbie snapped his fingers and disappeared in a cloud of smoke. He reappearedatop the billboard, looking down on the surprised Elf. “Leave Lazytownalone!” Robbie called. “And more importantly, leave me alone!”

“You and that pink girl shouldstay out of my way!” Was Ten’s heated response. “And eat something otherthan sugar!”

“I will if you grow a few moreinches!” Robbie saw those blue eyes flash once more, then Ten disappeared in aswirl of shadow. Robbie could still make out his form as he ran off through thefield towards the forest. The Trickster Elf was fast.
