taylor swift and karlie kloss met for the very first time while at the young hollywood awards

So the Chiefs game was on the other tv at the bar, and she casually mentions that her husband hates Travis Kelce and he has ruined taylor’s music. It was like a tweet coming on my tl in real life lol. I tried to appear calm and uninterested, but said “why?” Basically what you’d expect: he hates TLOAS and blames Travis, who he hated before Taylor came along for the way he behaves on the field, so he blames Travis for ruining her music. I just found this very interesting view coming from a 50 yr old cis white man (who grew up as a LA skater punk type guy, but also has a PhD in chemical engineering. Sort of a Tony hawk if Tony had given up skateboarding to go into STEM.)

So of course I have to plead my case to her (she is not overly invested and therefore pliable.) So without mentioning the fact that Taylor is a closet case, I proceed to explain that yes, her current music and persona is bad, but also how genius it is and how much I admire her for it all. I told her Showgirl broke the sales record. She had no idea. She thought it was kind of a flop. I told her about her scripted podcast and the timing of the engagement being, well, all for engagement and she understood immediately, without once thinking about it being fake. Just that she was using it for promo, just as most celebs would. I explained that if what you admire about a celebrity is authenticity, then no, Taylor probably isn’t your girl, at least not this Taylor. But if you recognize Taylor Swift as the brand and her genius at marketing herself as what’s the most admirable about her (or at least top 3 things most admirable about her) then you can love it even if you think the album is bad. I explained that I don’t like this Taylor either but I know there will be a new Taylor soon, and I can’t wait to see what that one is like. And she said (not snarkily at all) “maybe the next Taylor will be mom Taylor? I wonder if you guys will like that Taylor?” And I said “I can’t wait to find out. I think mom Taylor would be fascinating too.”

This Met Gala was only 2 weeks after TTPD dropped with all the references to Secret Gardens and it was Garden themed. Karlie was covered in pink daisy like flowers

All the foes and friends are telling her to let it go, her brother is saying she’s being bad to herself “eating out of the trash” that “life is a song, it ends when it ends” there’s no more to it, it’s just over and you clinging to it is the issue

But her MOM told her that’s not the case, that Taylor “had to make her own sunshine” aka she was in self preservation mode, everything imploded (summer of Lover, masters stolen, sudden closing of the glass box) and her relationship fell apart as a natural result of this, not because the relationship itself is bad

Because NOW the sky is opalite - daylight. NOW the clouds are gone, the storm is over, Taylor is no longer scraping for her own survival. She has the space to search for more.

In the second verse Taylor is reassuring that ex about her choice to leave Taylor.

That karlie was also trying to survive. And yes it is Karlie she’s talking to - Karlie who left the table (restaurant), Karlie who she was with at the MET

All of that shit back in high school love? It’s forgiven. Miss Americana you can come back to your heartbreak Prince

This is just a storm inside a teacup - now the mess is under control, Taylor has the upper hand and has learned from before.
