“Songs of Her's preserved that early period almost accidentally because the compilation gathered together singles the duo had already released across 2016 and 2017 while they were still learning what kind of band they wanted to become. Her's consistently built tunes around lonely characters, forgotten objects and strange fragments of everyday life. "Harvey" took its title from the 1950 James Stewart film about a man whose closest companion is an invisible rabbit, though soon Audun started introducing it live as a song about the love you carry for your best friend. Stephen wrote the song around the death of his mother, who died when he was 11, burying that grief inside lyrics that flittered cautiously around absence. Stephen's lyrics may have been moulded by death but the song hardly ever confronts that pain directly which somehow makes it feel even sadder in retrospect.

"Dorothy" by the indie rock duo Her's is the band's debut single released in 2016. The song's meaning centers around a secretive, cyclical, and anxious relationship. The lyrics evoke hiding from others, the fear of an affair or hidden romance being discovered, and the painful loop of parting ways and returning.

hello there anon~ thanks for dropping by! i feel torn when people relate to this because obviously it's not a fun place to be. but i guess there's some sort of relief knowing others are going thru (or have gone thru) the darkest corners of life. maybe you'll find one of those things or all of them or maybe even something you never expected. also there's so much strength in the fact that you're still trying 6 years later. nothing is linear esp not healing. sometimes i also have moments when i think 'am i back to square one?' and there goes another book for me lol anyway i hope the story helps in whatever way it does down the line. it might even give you a chuckle here & there. my inbox is always open!
