i try my best to calm my heart and not think about songs as a form of future prediction (though songs like imgonnagetyouback, for example, make it hard😆) because i think it sets yourself up to be in a loop of anticipation and disappointment, when instead you could be basking in the comfort of what has already been accomplished.

in the case of fresh out the slammer i am actually quite happy with and comfortable with the way i have come to listen to it, where it’s not a future prediction song. but i don’t think it’s way back when, rather, as a song describing a more recent period of time. (which i think in itself constitutes a big accomplishment.) i haven’t fully worked out the ins and outs and nuts and bolts of the semantics so i don’t want to put it out there just yet while my thoughts aren’t fully formed but i do listen to the song on the way home from work most days and each time i do i get closer to having a full interpretation.

i think there might be some fun shared motifs with dear reader that i haven’t seen talked about, and no not the stems, but i guess that’s related too. i have a slowly growing collection of songs that are in the same group as fresh out the slammer, and it’s a collection i assume is only going to grow from here.

i’ve just been so deep in thought over this song 🤧 like my iphone has recognized my patterns and whenever i take out my phone on the walk home every day it actually shows playing it as a suggested action like, it’s an automated part of my day 🤧🤧🤧
