headcanon that sirius and regulus grew apart but met each other again as adults and tried to mend their relationship now that they were both out of that house. it was complicated and there was a lot of mutual resentment so it was bound to show. sirius would refer to walburga and orion as “your mother/father/parents” when talking to regulus because in some ways, regulus chose to be their son over sirius’ brother to him. so when they really started to bond with each other, sirius would sometimes say “our parents” as a way to be gentler but that felt wrong so he started calling them just by their names and so did regulus and that’s how they both truly moved on from the abuse.
