I know GRRM was probably speaking generally when he said the Shattering occurred 5000 years prior to the events of the present story but it's still really funny to think Ranni had put her trust in Blaidd to find this stupid knife and the best he's done in perhaps two post-jesus lengths of time was locate the city it's hidden in, and although he knows his coworker probably knows how to get inside, his absolute disdain for the man prevents him from asking questions directly. So virtually nothing has happened in all that time. Despite he is one of the only characters not bound by a duty to uphold the current Order. He is procrastination incarnate.
