Thoughts on snowbaz in Wayward Son:
I've recently seen someone comment here how they hated Wayward Son bc Simon and Baz didn't turn out to be "the gay couple that they wanted" and even though opinions are something to be respected I still have something to say about this:
To me, personally, it is completely irrational to think that with the ending we got in Carry On, snowbaz would be anything close to a perfectly happy couple.
They love each other - that's by far a clear fact - and in WS this is proven when we see how desperately they wanted to make their relationship work even with everything they were going through.
In the end of CO Simon literary loses the only person that was close enough to a father figure in his life as well as one of the things he has always cherished the most: his magic.
Simon is depressed, he has all the reasons to be, and Baz doesn't know what to do.
Baz has never been in a relationship. He's been in love with Simon for years and of course now that he finally got to be with the boy he loved helplessly for so long, he would be walking on eggshells around him.
In WS Baz is completely helpless. He doesn't know what's wrong, he doesn't know why Simon doesn't communicate and, most importantly, he doesn't know what to do!
So of course they would have problems with comunication and of course the book would be filled with angst! That's a bloody consequence of the end of Carry On! We all should have seen it coming!
It's perfectly reasonable for Rainbow to write them like that and instead of just reading WS because of "the gay" we should instead try to understand the characters we are reading about and most importantly, we should keep in mind that they are PEOPLE and are bound to be imperfect and eventually make some mistakes...
