how it feels to message a friend who's having Problems that you can't do anything to help with.
It does get like that sometimes though!
next time you’re at the thrift store and find a nice solid thick pile area rug for a shockingly good price and you’ve been looking for an area rug for the office forever and the color goes really nicely with the office color scheme and you think this is it, this is what i’ve been waiting for, stop, and ask yourself: did i take the bus here?
next time you’re on the bus and see someone with an area rug and a look of deep disappointment in themself mind your own business

“Why are people dropping they/them from profiles” “a lot of people have stopped being nonbinary” “i feel like a lot of people i knew who were nonbinary identify differently suddenly” its the violent exorsexism in larger society and within queer communities that happens like clockwork when there is a rise in anti-queer, anti-trans bigotry.
When fascism spikes, we get a two-fold where folks who cannot or will not assimilate are pushed by our oppressors to reconsider, and fellow queer/trans folks become some of the most aggressive enforcers of that “choice” in an attempt to buy safety within the majority.
This shit is why inter-community discourse is not just petty complaints—the refusal to hold solidarity with the weirdest, loudest, most visible queers in our midst is fascist as well as self-destructive. People are being forced into the closet, forced into labels that make others—including queer and trans people—more comfortable, because comfort and conformity becomes the biggest priority for many when shit hits the fan. And these are the scenarios that dont end up with nonbinary people dead.
You are abandoning the most vulnerable while preaching about privileges, and this saboteur mentality will not even ultimately save you when eventually you are either forced to learn that you do not fit how you thought you did or our oppressors shift the goalposts until even your presentation of sexuality and gender are not “normal” enough anymore.

PRIDEQUEST SIDEQUEST HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAY PPL 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
i have a mission for you, should you choose to accept it!
you know how libraries weed and edit their book collections based on what circulates? and how censorship doesn't have to be explicit bans to proliferate in our communities? and how being queer on the internet is getting increasingly fraught?
we need accessible physical media. we need physical accounts of our history, of our past and present. we need informative free books that help people explore themselves-- and it's harder to justify discarding or weeding actively used resources.
do you have a library card? if not you should get one first- you wouldn't believe the number of resources you can find.
if you do though, will you join me in checking out and reading- and requesting- queer and/or trans books? fiction or nonfiction, historical or current. come back to this post and share what you found, if you like!
it's one tiny step in the face of the horrors, but it matters when we're talking about keeping community and information accessible to all.
Some libraries also count books that were removed from the shelves! Last year I went through my library's tiny collection of civil rights type books (you can find some quotes and critiques on my blog).

if i were to design a water starter it would be a crayfish that makes you think its gonna be water/steel for the first two stages because it tries to be a knight and make its own armor and protect people but its third stage is water/bug because it was too stupid to actually do any of that

Updated COVID vaccines are mostly for preventing severe acute illness, but it modestly reduces your chances of getting COVID at all! (54% less symptomatic illness in the following 4 months, in this recent MMWR report.) Best paired with a respirator! People who always wore N95 masks in indoor public settings had *83%* reduced risk of testing positive for COVID, in this 2022 MMWR report.
More info in this zine I made: What's Up With COVID and How to Protect Yourself: 2024 Edition.
Image description: Title reads "COVID-Safer Pride Guide" in front of a rainbow flag and three people in masks and respirators. Five colourful squares containing information make a rainbow and contain illustrations like a person's arm with a band-aid covering the site of a vaccine injection, a person in an N95 mask, and a line of Pride flags. The text reads:
COVID is still a threat. Getting sick sucks, plus your risk of long-lasting symptoms—aka long COVID—gets higher each time you're infected. Fortunately, there's a lot you can do to lower the risk of transmission! Protect your ability to party—and protest—this Pride!
Get a Booster. Like Drag Race spinoffs, new COVID variants are dropping all the time. Antibodies from your latest vax or infection wane after a few months. Get a booster matched to the latest variants, and your resistance will peak in a couple weeks!
Mask up! COVID virus spreads through the air like the smoke from a fag [British]. A well-fitting N95 mask gives great protection! More reasons to mask up: sexy and mysterious, shows community care, avoid all the other airborne diseases!
Take it outside. The more fresh air to disperse the virus, the better! Transmission is still possible, especially in a crowd, but going outdoors is a major safety update!
Stay home if you're sick. Pride is all about community, baby. Protect your people by staying home if you're sick. If you do have COVID (rapid tests aren't great, so you might not know), getting lots of rest lowers your risk of developing long COVID! Drink some tea, sis.
(Vaccine antibodies last 6-9 months iirc. Depending on your immune system, you may want them anywhere from every three to twelve months. If you're severely immunocompromised, talk to your physicians about vaccines before getting them)
Tiny hill to die on but I actually think it's horrifying how often I see people online say "bring back bullying" or "this is what bullying is for." Like that's not cute dude

starting a collection for my anthropology class can you guys send me more posts like these
Here's a few I have
having a best friend who meets your level of freak is unmatched. you present them with the most unhinged, deeply buried thought from the depths of your psyche and instead of blinking blankly they just go "oh absolutely"—and I think that mutual brain rot like that is the highest form of intimacy actually.
What they don’t tell you about getting into bird watching is that once you get into it, you do not get to decide when you bird watch. You can be on the beach of some distant tropical country with nothing planned except relaxing. But then you see a Common Fluttering Nut Buster and you’re like fuckkkkkkkk holy shit guys the Common Fluttering Nut Buster is not supposed to live this far west holy shitttttttttt
Not related to anything recent, but I wish when people critically discussed trends in m/m fiction (like the adherence to strict heteronormative gender roles) they didn't use "written by women" and "written by men" as shorthands for "written badly" and "written well". That irks me because it centers the issue with who is doing the writing rather than what is being written.
The inverse holds true, too. Men are perfectly capable of writing good f/f stories, just as women are perfectly capable of writing good m/m stories.
Ooh yes this is a very good flag, and is something I may be guilty of sometimes.
I think there are useful conversations about M/M being written by women (and F/F being written by men) especially in the context of the romance publishing ecosystem often shutting queer men out of the M/M romance space in favor of female authors and in the context of some women in fandom using their gender as a shield against criticism about some trends in slash fiction, and about F/F being written by men in the context of the history of fetishization by men of lesbians in pornography.
But totally agree that when talking about just the fiction itself we should focus on what is being written rather than who is writing it.
crazy that you can meet heterosexual people on the internet. im so used to gay people in my phone. sometimes there are straight people in my phone too. big news if true.

Fortuneteller, turning over the Death card: Don't worry. It isn't literal. It simply refers to some form of change. Me: Phew Fortuneteller; turning over the Gets Eaten by the Fortuneteller While Trying to Leave card: That can also mean many things
A super long audio book with just silence and an “oh, out loud?” at the end
And the occasional turning of a page
