I think there was something sort of profoundly beautiful about the Wii.

I don’t know why, but especially with the built-in channels there was something about the presentation and the music that really feels so much different from any other console. I think it’s because it’s the first console that tried to be something a little more than just a gaming device, and the ephemeral feeling that came with trying to blaze a trail while still maintaining an air of “we know exactly what we’re doing and are fully confident in these ideas”.

The man in the red cardigan in the clip was played by Michael Greer, who was openly gay himself - unusual for the time. He actually worked closely with the director and rewrote much of the film’s dialogue to reduce the homophobia and make it more realistic. As a result it’s quite progressive for its time, having a gay character, played by a gay man, living in a happy same-sex relationship, which is more than a lot of media offers us today.

The twist is that even after the pair is caught, they are not inducted into the military. The Army investigators assigned to watch them are themselves gay and are trying to keep straight people out of the Army.

George Mackenzie’s Mausoleum

In 17th-century Scotland, King Charles introduced the Common Book of Prayer as the prescribed liturgy and declared all opposition to the book an act of treason. Because of this new law, there was an intense religious struggle. 

George Mackenzie, a lawyer and Lord Advocate for King Charles was tasked with putting down the opposition. He was such a vicious and cruel prosecutor that he earned the title “Bluidy Mackenzie.”

He imprisoned many Covenanters in a section of Greyfriars Kirkyard in Edinburgh, where he delighted in their torture; guards were allowed to beat the Covenanters at will, and eventually, their heads would decorate the spiked gate.

After Mackenzie’s death, he was entombed in a Mausoleum in the same place where he tortured the protesters (Greyfriars Kirkyard). The Mausoleum is considered to be haunted by Mackenzie. His poltergeist is known to be very violent. People have reported being scratched, being hit in the back of the head and there is a story of one visitor being knocked unconscious.
