maybe merrill shows up two days later and won’t tell anyone why she’s there and whenever you ask she’s ’well fenris is also here so obviously we’re having a ~reunion~’ and fenris is like ‘you are following me and also being rude at an unprecedented level inviting yourself into hawke’s modest home and eating all their olive bread which I was already eating’ and hawke is now spending all their time breaking up fights between ferrill and not paying attention to the important fugitives drama anders needs them too. but eventually merrill lets out that she also had some fight with bela and it’s day six when bela arrives to have it out with them at which point anders really loses it and screams at them to take their sitcom shit and get out of his serious thinkpiece on war and politics and the human experience

i actually didn’t realize reeve was so unpopular, i’ve always felt like his approach was interesting bc his orpheus really feels New To Life. he is like heterosexual luke skywalker, he is driven off hopes & dreams & a longing to Do Something bc he has just never experienced the real world and he knows it. he’s fascinated by eurydice’s jadedness - one thing that struck me while watching was how she frequently dodges his unthinking embraces, but when we Actually see them kiss, he throws his hands up and lets her react first. much of what he does, especially in the first act, is his instinctual reaction to completely new experiences. all he knows is that he has to meet eurydice on her terms, so he learns to move around her, to encourage rather than lead. it’s not calculated; it’s just how he feels. he’ll be anything for her. the orpheus at the ending, rather than becoming confident in how close he is to success, becomes burdened by doubt however. orpheus in act one would have led instinctually and trusted she’d be behind him. but he faced his VERY FIRST trial in life and it was so hard and it felt so hopeless and things do indeed get so desperate and he has all this time to give into despair because even the gods have insecurities in love! orpheus will always make the journey because of who he is, but orpheus taking that journey will always turn him into the person who fails the journey. reeve gives him this sort of anti-character growth, just frozen at the end staring into the abyss, because he was tested, and he grew, but he still failed. and that’s his life forever. he’s too fresh, he’s too green, and he’s not enough.

I love DA2. The shitty graphics. The horrible gameplay. The story so unavoidably devastating and beautiful and horrible. Everyone hates each other. Everyone loves each other. You’re constantly filling the streets with bodies and there are no ramifications for this. There are ramifications for everything you say and do. Everyone’s bisexual. There’s a dragon in the mine. You lose everyone and everything you love and care about and it’s inevitable. Isabela gets an STI at one point. Merrill is a blood mage. You go from rags to riches to going on the run. You have a dog. You set your friend up on a date with the guy she likes. You hunt down a serial killer who takes the last member of your family away. Your doctor friend is possessed and loves cats and commits domestic terrorism. You have no control. You control everything.
