I used to set this one for second year undergraduate creative writing seminars on writing science fiction on a double bill with Octavia E. Butler's "Bloodchild" and no-one here gets out alive.

I'm just gonna slide this on in here for anyone that is interested in preserving old games. They take it very seriously too, they want an archive of every single game. Like, they have lists of every game ever released for a system, and once that system gets old enough, they add it to their archive and start collecting. Their latest addition was the Xbox 360, they opened that vault up in September 2022, and proudly announced they'd finished their collection of games for it back in April.
Also, while their game archives are almost entirely complete, they've got another project of archiving the manuals that came with those games, and that is... considerably less well filled out. Their collection of Xbox 360 manuals is especially rough, they've only gotten manuals for three games. So if you've got some Xbox 360 games kicking around, and the manual's still with them, please consider scanning them and submitting them to the site!
Game preservation is important, but people rarely consider preserving the manuals as well; I really respect Vimm's Lair for being so thorough in their archival work.
I've been using Vimm's Lair for years, I have yet to see a single bad link or virus on the entire site. It's arguably the safest and most comprehensive archive of video games in existence. Preserved history

This movie was so unapologetically New York it was wonderful.
Bad Bunny started playing and my theater started cheering. Thereâs a halal butcher shop next to a bodega, the kid Peter saved is a wearing a Knicks jersey and thereâs a random tourist bus thatâs filled with people wearing tacky New York merchandise. My favorite detail is when Empire State turned on its lights to support Spiderman just like how it does in real life with actual events.
The city is alive, vibrant, and in tune with Spider-Man and we see it become its own character rather than just a background setting. Peter finally interacts with the city again as a figure and as a person as well. Thereâs people who talk to him, who try to help in battles and these are all the moments that make the city a living and breathing home for Peter Parker and Spiderman together.
Tom Holland has such a better Queens accent too and idk but like Iâm a New Yorker, and I just looked around in my theater and I saw so many people like me all wearing Spiderman merch who were all able to look on screen and see our home represented perfectly.
I wanna sew but I have no sewing stuffâŚâŚ.

Merlin: So there I was, trapped in the nest of serkets...
Arthur, who just walked into the armoury: Serkets? Why are you discussing serkets?
Baby Knight: Merlin was just telling us about the time Lady Morgana poisoned him.
Arthur: Holy Fuck, What? *looks at Merlin*
Merlin, head tilted: Oh, I forgot to tell you this happened.
Arthur: Merlin! It's been three years since I changed the law. Three(3). How did it never occur to you to tell me Morgana poisoned you near serkets?
Merlin: Oh no, she didn't, but she magically bound me in chains and tossed me into a serket nest.
Arthur: How did you escape without getting stung?
Merlin: Oh, I did get stung.

psych style adaptation of king arthur where everyone thinks merlin has magic because he keeps solving camelotâs problems but he actually has no magical ability at all and itâs just that everyone else is incompetent. he keeps up the magic thing though by making up weird prophecies and cryptic comments because he kind of needs a job
sir kay is the lassiter figure like so pissed off all the time that merlin is obviously lying and wonât stop interfering with his job, but arthur just kind of keeps merlin around because like yeah the magic thing is ridiculousâŚbut somehow he still is solving everything and doing better than the actual people i hired (kay). so fine by me!
people keep saying this is just connecticut yankee NO. connecticut yankee kills the whimsy and the magic and says look isnât it funny now? isnât it funny to strip away the whimsy? no. we are keeping the whimsy. in this plot line magic is still very much real and a very useful skill to have in a royal advisor, one thatâs highly sought after. itâs just that merlin doesnât have it
real magician shows up to court and merlin is like im so fucked. desperately trying to take notes on what real magicians do the whole time. toward the end of the episode merlin realizes this guy is faking too and reveals him as a fraud to the whole court, of course in a way that confirms everyoneâs belief that merlin does in fact have magical abilities. arthur is very pleased, patting merlin on the back. âwow I canât believe he almost got away with that. itâs crazy how easy magic is to fake.â merlin smiles, sweating buckets. sir kay is staring daggers
