On that last thing, I've been formulating a thought for a while, originally in reference to how many TME people on this website respond to transfems, but I think it applies here just as well:
A key part of handling your privilege responsibly is mercy. I think it's safe to say that many, even most, of the people reading this post have some form of social privilege over some other people, and like the idea of minimizing this privilege in order to make things more safe and pleasant for those other people. That's a pretty common goal. It's a good one. But it's very hard when feelings are running hot. If you're angry at someone who's marginalized in ways you're not, no matter the principles you hold dear, you are exceptionally capable of causing them harm. Retaliation, in this context, is a seriously dangerous course of action to take, because even what you perceive as a fair and equal response to their slight can and will hurt them disproportionately. If you're white, you can run a Black woman off the site just by mentioning her name, because people are predisposed to listen to you. Safety nets are designed to let her fall through while catching you. Retaliating against a woman you're severely privileged over is like pressing a match to one spot on her skin, saying, "I'll just burn this little patch," when you know she's drenched in gasoline.
Unfortunately, even many of the people doing this unconsciously aren't doing it unwillingly. I've seen enough of the transmisogynistic hate/harassment campaigns on this site to understand that, even if someone can't put their power over trans women into words, they feel it very keenly, and they want that feeling to stay, no matter how many women it hurts. But to those who this can still reach, I just want to share my opinion and advice.
So, yeah. OP's right. There is no case where you should not just block and move on. Don't let your anger light a match.
