Capricorn: Jan 20 - Feb 16

Aquarius: Feb 16 – March 11

Pisces: March 11 – April 18

Aries: April 18 – May 13

Taurus: May 13 – June 21

Gemini: June 21 – July 20

Cancer: July 20 – Aug 10

Leo: Aug 10 – Sept 16

Virgo: Sept 16 – Oct 30

Libra: Oct 30 – Nov 23

Scorpio: Nov 23 – Nov 29

Ophiuchus: Nov 29 – Dec 17

the twelve star signs correspond to twelve constellations that cross the ecliptic, but their dates don’t necessarily line up with the locations of the constellations

the ecliptic plane is divided into twelve sectors of thirty degrees, not directly based on the constellation boundaries

the measurements are fixed relative to the equator rather than the constellations themselves

nasa didn’t change astrology - they couldn’t if they wanted to, because they’re not astrologers, but also they literally did not say the signs had changed

what they did say is that the dates generally accepted for the star signs are no longer in line with when the sun actually passes through the constellations

this has always been true, because even when the tropical zodiac was first conceived the constellations didn’t divide up evenly into twelve equal slices, but it also shifts over time so it’s more out of line now than it was back then

basically, nasa said that if astrology were based more strictly on astronomy, then 

a. ophiuchus would be included, 

b. the dates would be different, and 

c. the dates would constantly be changing

but the purpose of the post from nasa was to

a. establish that astrology is not astronomy

b. give a short, palatable explanation of the history of the study of stars and constellations

c. use astrology as a point of reference to demonstrate the progress of astronomy through history and the differences between astrology and astronomy

tl;dr the zodiac hasn’t changed, nasa doesn’t and can’t dictate astrology, constellations move, astrology isn’t a science
