insane martin blackwood theory
the big question: how the fuck did martin get hired to the archives?
even after working in the library for ages, it's clear that he's not cut out for archival work. despite his fast learning capability, it's really obvious to everyone that he's incompetent. jonah would have Known that he lied on his CV, but jonah also specifically moved martin to the archives.
hence, i have 2 theories.
theory 1: martin was intended to be a fear battery for a budding Archivist.
he's susceptible to the Eye because he's constantly terrified of being found out.
additionally, jonah knew that jon would be an asshole boss (at least to begin with) which would increase martin's paranoia. of course, jonah didn't expect martin's adaptability and his ability to read situations and manipulate others.
but jonah might have had more sinister intentions for martin.
theory 2: martin was intended to be jonah magnus' next body hop.
had jon died prematurely after indulging in his favourite activity of pissing off avatars, jonah would need to try again. and elias bouchard's body wouldn't have long.
also, jonah wouldn't want to stay a crusty old man for too long, seeing as he only keeps his bodies for 30 years or so.
martin, after being soaked in Magnus Institute Juice for most of his life, but also being an apparently expendable worker, is a perfect destination for jonah magnus' eyeballs. he doesn't contribute anything vital to the institute, he hasn't got many close friends or family members to be too concerned about him behaving differently and putting him in the archives allows him close proximity to the Archivist.
if elias' body became too old for jonah without managing to complete the watcher's crown, no one would be suspicious about an understated yet highly experienced and dedicated worker from the archives becoming the new head of institute.
but of course, jonah didn't expect
martin to actually be smart
jon to actually like martin
jon to fall in love with martin and become incredibly protective of him
so now jonah's pissed because the guy he hired as half an emergency measure and half a joke is getting all of jon's attention. because now he can't fire him.
yeah watching martin and jon slowly fall in love must've been fucking infuriating for jonah, what is this loser of a man doing with his beloved Archivist-
