We truly hate asking for it, but we weren't able to pay our medical bills for months now and we would love to be able to do it. We are looking for a job, but no one wants to hire a disabled queer.
Plus we do need some additional money for food.
And our family isn't going to pay for it, as they both can't afford and don't want us to be disabled.
So here is our Ko-fi. The goal is 600 PLN to cover the medical stuff and have something leftover for food.
Whelp, we are getting kicked out by the end of the month if we keep using our wheelchair and cane. So we aren't sure what goal to set here, only that any amount helps.
how do you know when you need to switch/add another mobility aid?
it was pretty obvious when everything just felt Wrong when using a cane and it was simple to move up to a singular crutch. but what about to having two crutches? or a rollator/wheelchair? I dont have any diagnosis to go off of to help either since the doctors are still confused so I cant even just like, plan ahead or something.
Hi, I'm sorry this is something I don't have the experience or knowledge to answer myself but I'm sure somebody out there has answers...
Community do your thing!
Anon, keep an eye on the reblogs and comments. I hope your doctor(s) can give you answers soon ✌️
(I'm going to call you 'when to switch aids anon' in case you want to send more anon asks)
A good rule of thumb we saw from other disabled people and that we personally follow is to ask yourself if using the new disability aid would be annoying or not. The same applies to your current aids of course. If using it is annoying, you don't need it. If it isn't annoying, you do need it.
This is how we know crutches won't fit our lifestyle or needs, because they would be annoying to use. It's probably similar with an electric wheelchair, at least for now. But we also know that we need our cane/walking stick and our active wheelchair, because they aren't annoying to use. The same goes for our glasses and headphones.
If a disability aid gets in the way, you likely don't need it. If it doesn't and feels like an extension of your body, you do need it.
And we don't mean annoying as in "making it harder to live in an inaccessible world" or "making people upset you are using them". We mean annoying just to use, regardless of other people.
I’m going to level with you guys. I love the Elder Things. I love them so much. They are hands down one of my favorite alien races. They’re a real demonstration of how far you can take speculative biology and non-anthropomorphism in sci-fi. Someday, I hope to see more people producing Elder Things art, headcanons, and OCs.
But of course, it’s hard to feel qualified to depict sapient creatures so nonhuman, and perhaps that scares people off. That’s why I’m going to introduce some ideas for emotes and body language that you could incorporate into your stories; hopefully it can help us all relate to these beasties a little bit better.
Greeting
The most effusive form of greeting is extending one or more wings to wave at your target. Doing this less energetically can also constitute something like a salute. Either way, it tends to draw attention
Briefly turning all five eyestalks on someone is a good way to acknowledge that they have your attention
Hooking the crynoid arms together is a reflex retained from ocean dwelling, originally to stick with one another in strong currents like sea otters. It expresses both trust and the immediate intention to spend time with one another
Brushing the head cilia against one another is an intimate form of greeting that can mean something like a kiss, a hug, or a butt grab depending how it’s done. The etiquette varies between land and water (water dwellers are generally more dependent on physical touch in communication)
Eyestalk Manners
Having five unconnected eyes allows for the easy division of attention, but how you display your attention will obviously have social ramifications. As a rule of tentacle:
All five eyes means something has your undivided attention and can even constitute staring
Four eyes is slightly less intensive
Three eyes means you have the majority of your attention trained on something. In conversation, you generally point three eyes at the speaker and keep two on your environment
Two eyes means something is interesting but you are distracted from it
One eye is the edge of your attention. If you keep only one eye on someone in conversation, you’ll be accused of ignoring them
Arching one's eyestalk to look down on someone is condescending, the equivalent of a smirk
Happiness
Elder things at ease tend to uncurl. Their tentacles may hang loose and their wings may fold just slightly out of their ridges
They may also emit a low whistle from their vocal organs, signaling contentment. This is done subconsciously
Signifiers around happiness are less dramatically obvious than in human cultures, and Elder Things are likely to just inform each other outright that they are feeling well
Fear
We know from the murals in AtMoM that Elder Things recoil when afraid
Presumably they raise their eyestalks and tentacles and physically draw back
A scared Elder Thing may also begin extending its wings in preparation to fly away, or begin shuffling its foot stalks
Some may curl into a sort of fetal position by folding all of their extremities to their body
Anger/Aggression
Elder Thing culture doesn’t tend to make as much of a distinction between fear and anger except that with anger you feel confident enough to act
But being aggressive for personal gain is considered distinct and uses much of the same body language
An Elder Thing conveying “I will hurt you” makes itself big
It partially unfolds its wings, lifts its eyestalks, and extends the crinoid arms
It may emit a threatening whistle, and its mouths may open
When their mouths open, the threat isn’t to bite you like for a mammal. Rather, in the same way or anger expressions come from primate threat displays, an Elder Thing’s posturing comes from the actions of a sea creature preparing to overpower and eat a smaller creature
Sadness
Sad Elder Things are droopy
And they pull in on themselves
Elder Things aren’t prone to wallowing in pity like humans are, but they certainly know disappointment
And discouragement can make states of torpor highly appealing
Fugue
Elder Things have certain emotions not really translatable to the human psyche in as ready a way
One of the more prominent is something adjacent to dissociation
Elder Things are good at spending long periods of time doing something rote, where a mammal would struggle with boredom
It helps them focus on things like space travel or meditation and is probably related to their somewhat vegetative nature
This state is characterized by methodical, relaxed movements and dilation of the pupils
Sleepy
Elder Things sleep and otherwise go into torpor by tucking in all their extremities and folding the eyestalks against the neck
When they feel lethargic from exhaustion or extreme cold, they will begin to move towards this state, curling in on themselves
Their eyes close when sleeping, so their cilia perk up to keep them somewhat alert
Telepathy
Elder Things are advanced in the psionic arts, and may be able to send weak empathic signals that way, especially if they specialize in Shoggoth handling
This is not a primary mode of communication, however
Sending more coherent ideas requires technique and dedication far less convenient than simply talking
Shoggoths
While the Shoggoths take some of their expression and most of their speech from their creators, their body language is entirely different
Their polymorphic modes of communication may get their own write up soon, because I love Shoggoths too
OP, this is wonderful! We are so happy others like them too!
We aren't sure how to incorporate more Elder Things into our own fanfics though, as they mostly live millions of years apart from humans, and our fanfics largely focus on human characters. We do have time to figure something out though.
Okay, but also: if you see a Muslim praying in public and they have something in front of them, like a purse or a bag or something like that, you can pass in front of them, but pass in front of that object.
it’s called a sutrah, and it’s meant to act as a physical barrier between the person praying and someone who might happen to pass in front.
Also, if you did this and didn’t know, please don’t beat yourself up over it. Now you know! Muslims aren’t supposed to pass in front of Muslims praying, either, because prayer is communication with God and you don’t want to break that connection.
Similarly, if a Jew is saying the Shemonah Esrei prayer (whispered, moving only the mouth, standing facing east with legs together) don’t go in front unless there’s a barrier.

[ID: Two comics of simple cartoon characters. The first one shows a person crushed by a large boulder from the waist down, clearly bleeding, and a second person talking to them (they are wearing a shirt that says "Rock rescue"). The crushed person asks: "Can you please help me? I'm trapped under this boulder and it really hurts!" The shirt person replies with: "You should try cognitive behavioral therapy! Anxiety can make the pain worse which causes a feedback loop." The crushed person then asks: "Can we please get the boulder off first?" only to be met with "No." The second comic depicts the formerly crushed person now using crutches and with their lower half covered in bandages, and a different person with a clipboard talking to them. The clipboard person says: "I'm going to need you to get under this boulder!" and the crushed person replies with: "Why would I do that?" They are met with: "It's the only way to get better! You need to build up your tolerance to being under boulders! How can you live a happy life if you can't even endure being under a boulder?" The crushed person points out: "You don't have a boulder.", only to be ignored and told: "You don't want to get better. You won't get better if you don't cooperate." End: ID]
Yeah, we felt that. Unfortunately many doctors and even family members of ours have this attitude. And while we are privileged enough to have some choice of healthcare providers, so we can look for less ableist ones, the family issue isn't as easy to solve. Also, we need to remind ourselves that we are allowed to use said privilege all we want and need, because it's the type of privilege everyone should have.
Disabled joy is the nurses listening to us when we tell them we are scared of needles, and reminding us to look away while drawing our blood. They also often don't mind chatting during the process while we turn our head to the side to avoid looking at the needle. It's a little sliver of joy and hope in the reality of having to have blood drawn a lot for many reasons and bruising easily from it.
We just tried looking up some blogs focusing on disability joy, and didn't find anything. Tumblr did suggest the tag #project hail mary, which is partially correct. Very much in the "Well yes, but actually no." territory.
Update: We found the blog @/this-is-disabled-joy with the tags, so if anyone is interested, you're welcome!
Aromantic transmascs!! I'm so glad to be in a world with aromantic transmascs!!! If you're aromantic and transmasculine, you're literally the coolest person ever!!!

Hmmm, as far as we are aware fat people don't have more cells in general, they just might have more fat cells or have more fat in them. So not really.
That doesn't mean fat Jedis couldn't exist, just that it wouldn't give them an advantage over slimmer ones.
The real advantage would be probably given by height and generally bigger body in all its aspects, as this is usually related to more cells.
Also the force itself doesn't make you a good Jedi, it's also the training, the discipline and morality. The force sensitivity levels can make some aspects easier, but they are in no way a guarantee of becoming a Jedi master, or even a good Knight.
And do we remember correctly that @scribe-of-monsters knows more than we do about the franchise? Does anything we said make any sense, friend?
I don't actually know much about how midichlorians work, from what I remember it's more about the concentration of them within the cells? But then again the movies don't really elaborate on them and idk anything about the expanded universe lore. What @saros-system said is right though, it's more about training and experience than raw power (at least until the power scaling became such a mess in the recent stuff but eh), so that is what would be a deciding factor in a fight rather than midichlorian count.
My interpretation was always that Anakin's midichlorian count was only so notable because he was literally conceived by the force itself, and so it was obnoxiously high because of that (not sure if that's actually the case but always seemed to me what the phantom menace was implying, at least).
But maybe someone who knows more about extended universe stuff has an answer, if they want to jump in 🦖

Thank you! We like to actually say her name in our fanfics, but we also don't want to spell out something so close to a slur. So we are going to use these instead!
Queer refugees in East Africa are living at the intersection of multiple forms of vulnerability fleeing violence at home, only to face new risks in displacement.
Across the region, many LGBTQ+ people are forced to leave their countries because of criminalization, persecution, and threats to their lives. In some places, same-sex relationships are still punishable by severe penalties, even death.
For those who reach countries like Kenya or Uganda, safety is not guaranteed. Refugee camps such as Kakuma have seen reports of discrimination, attacks, and tensions affecting LGBTQ+ residents, even as humanitarian agencies try to improve protection.
Recent years have also seen more people fleeing harsh laws like Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act pushing queer individuals to seek asylum across borders, often into already strained systems.
Beyond physical safety, queer refugees face isolation, lack of healthcare, limited legal protection, and mental health challenges shaped by both displacement and identity-based trauma.
And yet, across East Africa, queer refugee communities continue to organize, support each other, and demand dignity, visibility, and rights.
Queer refugees are not just statistics they are people seeking the same thing anyone would: safety, belonging, and the freedom to live openly.
🏳️🌈 Their stories matter. Their safety matters. Their rights matter.
(A post from a queer Sudanian refugee who can't set up a fundraiser in his own country.)
firm believe that not everything happens for a reason, sometimes things are just cruel. and they shouldn’t have happened and it’s not supposed to be a lesson because we never deserved such thing.
hm some people in my inbox got really mad at this specifically. nothing you can say will convince me that some of the pain and suffering we go through is our “fate” no, it isn’t

if i die and nobody cannibalizes me imma be so fuckin pissed. make my funeral a feast, make my death a celebration of life in the most sickening way. fry me, bake me, put me in a stir fry or meat pie or just plain old steak but i want nothing left but the bones of me to be left.
Cannibalism of the dead actually has been used in multiple cultures/religions. Endocannibalism is when someone's body is eaten by their community as a act of mourning.
In contrast, exocannibalism is when someone eats their enemy as an act of ultimate humiliation and domination.
Prions in the brain can be a problem though. Maybe even the brain without the prions. And the rest of the body has to be preserved and prepared in a way that leads to the least biohazard possible.
We do not care if this is more of a fantasy thing or an end of life plan thing, safety is still very important!
And on a less serious note, human flesh isn't that nutritious, and the same likely goes for organs. There is a reason why we largely use herbivores and omnivores for food - large mammalian land predators simply don't have enough nutrients to make a large part of a diet. For example, you need some additional fat to actually absorb the protein in the meat. So some meal planning is actually needed here.
However, we do not think it's unethical if everyone involved is consenting to it and is aware of the potential risks. And it's not like you couldn't have a cenotaph to commemorate you after your passing, even if there won't be a body under it.
guess no brain than huh? so sad you guys cant eat my brain and gain all of my fun facts and my knowledge of super edgy fucked up stuff /silly. and bfdi.
Yeah... some organs are just very hard to eat safely. Unless the people participating have digestive systems comparable to alligators or vultures, it's best to skip it.
need to become an all powerful god so i can give my moots the digestive systems of alligators >:} i would love to eat a heart though, so sad i cant do it. smh.
Ascending to godhood usually means immortality though, doesn't it? So there wouldn't be a funeral to speak of. Some things just can't really be done in reality, for various reasons. Fiction is still an option though! And you could always donate your brain to science if you want it to be useful!
This is something we might do ourselves actually - give our body for folks to study, so we can continue to help people and make this world a better place even after dying.
