Falmouth BA Photography

So what do I do with this blog now that we have all graduated and left Falmouth?

1) Just leave it up as a permanent website/storage of the 2011 graduates

2) Let the 2011 graduates submit images they (we) have made after graduation

3) Let anyone from any of the Falmouth Photography courses (yes, Press and M&NH as well) submit images they have made at any point

4) Let anyone from Falmouth from ANY COURSE submit whatever they have made that they are proud of and want published

Obviously, if there is a submit option, all posts will go through my dashboard, so I'll be able to make sure there is no random spammy stuff. I am kind of tempted to let it be alternative 3 or 4, just because it would be nice to have it updated quite regularly, and it would be a good source for inspiration and seeing what others are up to/have been doing recently.

Reveal and Conceal is based on a series of performances conveying a relationship with illness, identity and sexuality.

Consumed is a series of work looking at how as a flat pack society we consume huge daily amounts of empty commodities with the illusion that we will some how gain the idealised images they have created for us to consume a product so unrelated. At the same time I hope for the work to question our concept of photographic space by disturbing the way we would normally come into contact with it.

Societal Reflection by Jamie Clark, part 3

Societal Reflection comprises a collection of short films that explore themes of observation and interaction. The work explores human behavior and social existence within modern society. It takes inspiration from Andy Warhol's 'Screen Tests' and William Eggleston's 'Stranded In Canton', as well as drawing on many ideas of the social media revolution in which we currently find ourselves. The aim is to challenge the viewers' preconceptions of those depicted, but also to ask 'why are you (the viewer) interested in watching these people?'

Norðvegr og vestrvegr is old Norse for Norway and Britain (Northway and Westway), quite fitting for a project by a Norwegian in England, about being Norwegian in England. Sunniva is a Norwegian girl who always wished to live in England. She wanted so strongly, when she moved here, to feel at home in this wonderful country of tea and coastal walks and extremely polite people. After living here for almost three years, she is having to admit defeat. She simply does not belong here. It is not a matter of criticising England. There is just the matter of realising how dull life has become, and how little she fits in. This series is an attempt to explain this feeling.

This project is about the human connection with ‘the wild’. How we need it and deny it, and have built our own version of the world in place of it. Humanity is the architect of false realities. Forests reduced to parks, animals confined to cages. The fierce animals, which are symbols of wildness and freedom, have been reduced to objects and forced to inhabit a world that is entirely constructed. The work aims to highlight this unnatural state by confronting the viewer with these opposing elements, pointing out where the domestic and the wild are juxtaposed and forced to interact.
