#graduate

and this is my diary at the end of the school year.. I graduated high school and it was my 7th and last skl. I did kg1 in a school called Bloomfield hallschool which is in Pakistan. Then we moved to fujairah and then Abu Dhabi. It was a splendid journey which I will never forget.

Academic Aspects!

The academic aspects of biomed as a bachelor's depends largely on university and what kind of community you have there.

For me, the first couple of years were the hardest academically. I was taking the maximum amount of courses and trying to do everything perfectly. The classes are hard. Focusing on what kind of study strategy to use for each class, what things to pay attention to for each professor, and making it a habit to study early really helped me in the long run. Also giving myself leeway to not have to be perfect (very hard, still working on it) got rid of a lot of stress.

The hardest class for me was definitely Biochemistry (not surprising haha). BUT! The community of people taking these classes with you, sharing this path, and the good professors helping you succeed are really the golden ticket in academic survival. Form study groups, work the homework together, go to professors for help. They want you to succeed.

Work Life Balance (it exists I promise)

Your mental health is your best friend. Take care of your mental health, and you can handle just about any work sent your way. That being said, my non negotiables were 8 hours of sleep, at least 2 meals, and some movement in my day (walk, stretch, etc). School comes second to your health. You don't learn well when you're not well.

I front loaded my program, meaning I took majority of my credits earlier on (years 1 and 2) so that I could have more free time in the later years, which helps as you prepare to apply for further schooling, figure out your next steps, etc.

For extracurriculars, I've kept them strictly non biomed for the most part to prevent burn out. I've attended a dance club for three years that I now run. I did some advocacy work on behalf of students at my university for a couple of years.

I'm also in a couple of bio related ones. I volunteered in a lab for a year before I got a job in one for another year. I attend work shops through a health professionals club with suture clinics and Q&As too. But ultimately, if I feel overwhelmed, I make sure to take it as easy as I can. A tired mind needs rest, not pressure.

I make one day a week a designated "no study day" and give myself a break for hobbies. I also have a strict 10pm cut off for studying to protect my sleep! Neuroplasticity depends on adequate sleep, so it actually helps the information stick more!

A final piece of information is that you are capable of doing this. You will have times where you don't feel ready, but I promise you, you're more prepared than you think. You've got this!
