I'm dying........ my grandpa cheated on my grandma, but she thought she looked really good in their wedding photo... so she cut him out of it and framed it.
I love her reasoning for this. "Well, my husband is trash and I don't want to see his face on the wedding pictures anymore, but I personally think I look great in them, so I'll just cut him out and put the pictures back up" and then she went and actually DID IT
Detail: my grandma did this when she separated from my grandpa in 1993, which was also the year she was battling CANCER. My grandma was going to the hospital during the day to go get cancer treatment, coming home, and cutting my grandpa out of every picture she could find. So you can imagine how angry she was
Just for the record: MY GRANDMA IS STILL ALIVE. She survived the cancer!
The ruling will have enormous impacts for transgender residents in the state.
HOLY SHIT
"The Montana court separately declared that transgender people constitute a suspect class under the state's equal protection clause. In legal terms, a suspect class is a group that has historically faced such severe discrimination that any law targeting them must meet the highest level of judicial scrutiny to survive—the same standard applied to laws that discriminate on the basis of race. [...] The practical effect is sweeping: any Montana law that singles out transgender people will now face strict scrutiny, meaning the state must prove the law serves a compelling interest and is narrowly tailored to achieve it—a standard that laws almost never survive.
"Because the decision rests entirely on the Montana Constitution, it is insulated from the U.S. Supreme Court. Under the principle of adequate and independent state grounds, the federal Supreme Court cannot review a state court's interpretation of its own constitution, so long as that constitution provides more protection than the federal one. [...] What this means in practice is that Montana's transgender residents now have a constitutional shield completely independent of the Supreme Court of the United State’s decisions."
(emphases mine)
sometimes people experiencing psychosis and/or mania will come up to you on the street and talk in confusing or upsetting ways. your job is to either have a regular human-to-human conversation with that person or politely leave. your job is not to call 911. do not call 911. you might kill that person if you call 911.
I don't even have the energy to screenshot and respond to your tags- what the actual fuck is wrong with you? "the cops are scared and rightfully so" "mental health calls are the scariest for cops" OH so this isn't about the safety of psychotic & manic people this is about piggy feelings?
and no, actually, this is not USA specific and no, actually, people from other countries should not ignore this post. police violence and sanism weren't invented in the US and they are certainly not unique to here. if you (or anyone) thinks that this bullshit doesn't happen elsewhere then you are not listening.
cops r Some Guy with a Gun
do we want Some Guy with a Gun in this situation? answer is usually "NO"
This is legitimately useful reframing. A while ago I started replacing the word "cop" in my vocabulary with "a man with a gun." It really puts things into perspective.
This homeless person is making me uncomfortable. Should I call [a man with a gun]?
My neighbor is having a loud party. Should I get [a man with a gun] involved?
There are some teenagers skateboarding. Do you think [a man with a gun] would get rid of them for me?
It makes it very clear what you're saying. I can call a man with a gun to threaten or hurt someone mildly inconveniencing me. You're not calling the cops, you're calling A MAN WITH A GUN into a situation that does not warrant a firearm handled by a volatile lunatic who will not be held accountable for his actions.

if you are a parent, or may become one, or you are otherwise likely to arrive in the situation of caring for a child while they eat, promise me this: if a child doesn't like a certain food or food group, you will ask them WHY. and specifically, you will pay attention to either confirming or ruling out "it makes my mouth itch" or "it makes my stomach hurt," both of which are medically important info that children may not provide unprompted. which i know because this PSA has been brought to you by "i spent my entire childhood and much of my early teens eating peas and lentils while wondering why everyone else liked the Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation so much, like were they a bunch of legume masochists or something, before i finally realized that Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation was in fact a sinister demon appearing only to me, and her true demonic name was: Legume Allergy"

FUCK YOU MIKE HIRSHFIELD
Oh my god it wasn’t an EFO
Wonder if Jenner felt hurt by not being protected and decided to leave, certainly sounds like she wanted to stay in Ottawa. Not signing an EFO gives Hamilton a lot more cap space to work with.
She's from Oakville, so being closer to home may have been a big appeal, especially being one of the players in the league that is married with kids. child care is noooooo joke and obvs if u have good relations with ur family just more opportunities to get ur kids to be around them on a regular basis is what many wany. i think her wife still works part time in a gov org based in toronto (but also idk if she had any remote work arrangements or what their deal is.) I think there will be quite a few players like this where just personal stuff likely factors in big time
kind of if using this as a jumping off post for a more general thought i think the pwhl kind of exists in this weird space of like, it is professional sports and its dynamics are different from normal people jobs, but also they are still making normal people jobs money and theres going to be factors players will consider here that they dont consider in the nhl. Not that nhl players dont have personal factors (they do and we hear it often) but most of these players do not have partners who can easily pick up and move with them like nhl players do (this is a whole dynamic and a half that i wont get in to in regards to nhl players) and their partner probably works, they dont have the money to relocate family closer to where they play, a lot of the players (even tho many are from upper middle class to upper class families) are much more enmeshed in their community and arent sending their kids to private school and cant just buy any house they want in a nice neighborhood to take care of stuff so they need to think more carefully about where theyre living and how it suits their lifestyle. and of course on this blog ive discussed how things like visas and citizenship can impact it to. like idk it was a big deal in the nhl when jacob trouba was making decisions on his contract based on where his wifes career would take her and seen as this crazy thing but thats how most pwhl players who are in serious relationships will have to roll for numerous reasons, one of the biggest being they dont make enough to be single income households
