The building, called Begich Towers, holds a police station, a health clinic, a church, and a laundromat. Its hallways resemble those of a school . See how a group of Swedish police officers responded when a fight broke out on the New York subway.
Four Swedish police officers’ New York vacation was interrupted when a fight broke out on the subway. The train operator called for support, and — being cops and all — they dutifully stepped in to help until local authorities arrived.
The visiting cops had to subdue the two men involved in the fight, which no doubt takes skill to do safely. But it’s how they did their job after they gained control that really impressed people.

The really fascinating part is that it’s completely self-referential: some studies suggest that openly administered placebos actually work better on people who know about the placebo effect.
You see, the placebo effect is influenced by how effective you expect the treatment to be. If you know about the placebo effect, then your expectations are higher, because you know that placebos are more effective in people who expect them to be effective.
In other words, the placebo works because you expect it to, but the only reason you expect the placebo to work is because you know that placebos work better if you expect them to.
The expected outcome is thus engendered by your expectation of it, which is in turn founded in the expectation that your expectation will engender the expected outcome.
It’s a metacognitive feedback loop.

did u know that i’m literally an inexpressible person in my native language?
we had trans women until white people invaded us and murdered 4/5 of our population, destroyed our language, dismantled our culture and forced us into political subjugation
in the process they killed every person with a gender like mine and every person who remembered the name for it. there are stories featuring trans women but none which preserve the word for women like me.
so, yeah. the system of gender within which i currently live was forced on me by a regime of military occupation and genocide which continues to this day and the only reason white queers are uncomfortable when i say i want it destroyed is because that would necessarily involve the destruction of global white supremacy, which they materially benefit from.
attacking indigenous trans women for wanting to abolish gender as we presently understand it is intrinsically white supremacist.

On Mike Brown’s 19th birthday, Michael Brown Sr., family members, and community members removed the memorials from Canfield Drive.
Urban League will store the removed items until a permanent location for the memorial is found.
Family members stopped to pray and for a moment of silence before continuing to remove the memorials.
After Canfield Drive is resurfaced tomorrow, a plaque and a dove will be installed in the street as replacements for the memorials.

So my mom is shopping in a supermarket, wearing a full hijab and jilbab (commonly misnamed as a burka) and the whole time she is there, this kid is staring at her. Won’t stop staring. Just looking with wide-eyed shock. The lil feller isn’t any older than four. She doesn’t think much of it, she is used to far worse than just a few stares.
Until the very end when the kid and his mom are behind her in the checkout, and he leans up and whispers loudly:
“I LOVE YOU BATMAN”
