He is so precious. I love him so much π₯Ίπ©΅ππ«
I randomly think about percy jackson, one of the strongest demigods in existence that many people thought was a god the first time they saw him, is just a lovestruck teenage boy who tries to impress his girlfriend and often talks about how much he loves his mom
It really is so disturbing to see a Percy Jackson without the inner monologue.
In the books, even if he was absolutely slaying, eating, serving BAMF in the middle of the fight, the book would be saying like "gosh I'm so awkward and clumsy haha who let me hold a sword lol I'm such a silly goose"
In the show we see him in pain and literally doing the most insane stuff with the most stoic facial expressions. Killing, stabbing, getting stabbed. He isn't some quirky funny kid on the outside, even if canonically on the inside he sees the world like a real kid. The show Percy seems different for these reasons but that's not OOC, that's just what Percy looks like to EVERYONE ELSE.
thank you for coming to my TED talk
I won't lie to you I AM a little fond of those "mortal au poseidon is a millionaire and finds out about percy and takes custody of him" fics but they're always like sally was murdered by gabe or died in an accident or something equally sad. I want one that still keeps the base plot of the lightning thief. just imagine how hilarious it would be if random rich guy poseidon turns on his tv one day and sees that 1) the woman he cheated on his wife with is missing in a mysterious car explosion and 2) her 12 year old who is being labeled a domestic terrorist looks exactly like him. the olympian family pr firm is going fucking CRAZY.
imagine. your wife and kids are finding out you had an affair from CNN. your ex's husband is on fox news trashing a 12 year old you just found out about and saying the 'evil' in him must've come from your side of the family. the 12 year old in question has just blown up a national monument. hera is threatening you at knife point in the emergency family meeting. you are begging your arch nemesis athena to defend this random 12 year old in court and she's refusing until she sees news footage of HER 12 year old daughter at the crime scene and frantically calls her baby daddy. conservatives that were already big mad about a powerful and rich family from another country being so entwined in american politics are having a fucking field day. you just wanted to run your silly little marine life passion project in peace.
apollo is live streaming the emergency family meeting and it's only fueling the media storm,
when percy's giving his 'here's gabe's phone number' interview at the end the reporter follows up with 'do you think your olympian family has done enough to protect you in this ordeal? why would they not publicly defend you and state your innocence? how close are you to your father?' and poor percy is just like. .what.
percy on live television finding out his dad is 1) alive 2) insanely rich and powerful and 3) has an evil father who just orchestrated percy's kidnapping despite literally no one knowing he existed prior to this
(and also 4) desperately trying to work out from context clues whether or not the cute girl he's been stuck with all month is his cousin or not)
poseidon frantically giving sally 12 years worth of child support and insisting he will always be there to Help from now on no matter what
like 3 days later he gets a call from percy who's like 'quick question how serious were you about that 'do anything for us' promise' (sally just murdered gabe and they don't know how to get rid of the body)
ooooh okay let's go:
1) Thalia wasn't in the camp she's been in a coma for years and in an act of desperation to get good press Zeus announces she's showing signs of waking up (she's not) (and it doesn't out shine the national manhunt at all) and then when she Actually wakes up a little over a year later the public doesn't believe the news at first bc of it. like they see the front page news about her miraculous recovery and the general public is like "what did Percy do this time"
2) the concept of Jason still getting raised by wolves- normal, non magical wolves this time- is KILLING ME!!! when he eventually gets discovered and rescued, Hera is his biggest supporter in helping him get readjusted to society and everyone is genuinely shocked that she's not Just doing it for good press
3) Hades actually takes custody of Nico and Bianca right away and it's not a big news story. when the press find out about HAZEL, HOWEVER,
4) Mr. D is still In The Family he's just cut off financially and out of the will and he literally does Fine for himself like he's rich in his own right between the strawberry wine vineyards and the camp he owns and runs. but every time he turns up to a family event he acts like he's a street beggar and has the hardest life imaginable. very 'woe is me I'm the only one of my siblings that can't afford TWO yachts' energy lmfao.
5) Kronos had Percy and Annabeth specifically kidnapped bc they were the two weakest spots in The Family- no one knew about Percy, so no one was protecting him, and while Annabeth grew up around the family because of her mom's job she wasn't Related to them and they never thought to extend any protection to her. Grover just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time bc he was tagging along on Percy and Sally's vacation and while Ares was okay with kidnapping and arson for his evil grandfather he decided to not be down for murder. this is why he never killed Percy's annoying ass during their cross country trip even when Percy kept fighting him and ruining his various bombing plans. AND he was mad as hell that Percy kept getting all the credit and being called the terrorist bc none of the reporters seemed to notice Ares was even there lmao
6) Annabeth was definitely missing for at least a week before Athena saw her on the news and Realized lmfao Frederick WAS trying to find her but he was more scared of telling Athena than he was for their daughter's safety
7) Amphitrite was mad about. well everything. but when she found out Sally murdered Gabe she was happy to help cover it up lmao she had a BLAST. she's like damn I married into such a shady family I can't believe I haven't had the opportunity to do this yet
8) Triton and Kym HATE Percy the beef is so immediate but Tyson adores him and Rhodes, who doesn't live at home, is nice when she stops by. Percy is literally more scared in this fuck ass family than he was when he was kidnapped lmao
9) Apollo keeps trying to get Percy to do an 'exclusive interview' with him and Poseidon keeps literally chasing him off
10) Zeus is never going to financially recover from this bullshit

βNico Di Angelo is a token gay! His coming out scene sucked!β babes Iβm BEGGING you to remember 2013 gay characters were not allowed in childrenβs media.
Lemme say that again: In 2013, it was expected that gay characters would be censored in childrenβs mass media.
Remember Korra? How she and Asami had to settle for ambiguous handholding rather than a kiss? That was fully a year after House of Hades came out. Nickelodeon said No Gays, the Childrenβ’ canβt handle that. Too risky. And people said man that stinks, but thatβs how these things go in 2014 America.
Gay marriage was literally still illegal in the vast majority of US states. As of October 8th, 2013 (House of Hades release date) Gay Marriage was only a thing in thirteen fucking states. California had only legalized it that year.
Gay people were still very much on the fringes of society. It was an acceptable political position on both sides of the aisle to be against the existence and equal rights of gay people.
Nico was legitimately a landmark character in queer representation. To my knowledge, there wasnβt before an openly gay main character in a bestselling ya/middle grade fantasy fiction series. It simply was not a thing. They didnβt exist. They werenβt allowed to exist.
I remember people crying. Finally. It was a watershed moment. Kids all across the world finally got someone who represented them. It was such a big fucking deal. And it was controversial!!! Not for the reasons it is today, but because people thought gay kids having representation was inappropriate.
Is Nicoβs coming out a great scene? No, these days it leaves a lot to be desired. Itβs not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and Iβm sure Rick wishes he could change it. But the fact thatβs the case is a wonderful reflection of how far weβve come.
All of your gay heroes in childrenβs media have Nico Di Angelo to thank. It was important, and good. It deserves to be celebrated, even if weβve progressed past it since.
YES YES YES
We oftentimes underplay how important representation is and how much it can mean to people. Because I remember proper crying after I read the dedication to The Sun and the Star ("To all the Nicos, Wills, Pipers, and everyone in between: this is for you. May you shine as bright as the sun and the stars").
It is books like Heartstopper or books in the Riordanverse that taught me it was okay to be queer, that made me comfortable in my identity. Nico's coming out scene in House Of Hades was absolutely monumental in its time and though I was too young to read YA in 2013, I'm sure that it paved the way for so many books and characters that came after that helped me.
My biggest red flag is that I never found Apollo/Lester annoying and always was highly entertained by himβ¦
youβre telling me heβs not annabethβs father? try again. no one can tell me this isnβt frederick chase. oh athena would love himβ¦
something quick I did while I go crazy waiting for the next episode lol

The gods in S3 realizing that Annabeth Chase, who Poseidonβs son admitted that heβd βburn it all (Olympus) downβ for, is missing and presumed dead
Headcanons about demigod powers
I think everyone's powers in PJO (except Percy) were very underutilized. Like Hermes is a psychopomp, one of his kids should be seeing the dead and knowing death dates. Or Demeter, I think it would be really cool if, instead of plant powers, one of her kids had more winter powers. Or Aphrodite, some sort of emotion-tuning, see different kinds of love, ocean controlling, frenzy, mob powers. And don't get me started on Ares or Athena. This is going to be a rant, bear with me:
Okay, my headcannon for an Ares kid is that the longer a fight lasts, the stronger they get, and they can heal much faster in battle, so monsters need sneak attacks. They can also do killing intent like in Naruto and read people's intents, like if they're bloodthirsty or scared, or whatever. Their adrenaline is actually supernatural, like instant combat readiness, and fear of death doesn't paralyze them, it makes their ADHD go overtime. They are also the most ADHD kids in camp. They instinctively know if the fight will turn, and if a fight's happening, they can naturally intensify it around them to draw monsters closer. Anger boosts speed, strength, and reflexes, and once they decide to fight, taunts, fear tactics, and intimidation donβt work. Kinda like Reyna, they can give their allies resistance to fear and panic, and plans or tech, etc, degrade the longer you're in a fight with them. Basically, with children of Ares, ambushes are best because they have ALL the power once they start fighting back.
For Athena, there have been one or two kids with ocean-related powers, but most of their powers are more subtle. I headcannon them like Ares kids, they're immune to emotional manipulation and charms, think best under pressure, and when they're focused, they can literally just shut out distractions entirely. They're like the Batman of PJO. They always have backup plans, they sense danger before it appears, they notice what others miss, they're unbelievably patient and can find exactly what they need, or have Ladybug's lucky sight showing what they need. They remember everything, they have a mental library/occlumency like in Harry Potter. They can "read" old magic, symbols, and rituals instinctively, and once they gain an advantage, it WILL snowball. They always know where to stand, they have Athena's quick thought, where they can simulate outcomes seconds to hours ahead, they rapidly learn any craft or tool, and if they have proper supplies, they can fix almost anything with enough time. When they speak, people will listen even if they don't get why. One of Athena's things is justice, so maybe her kids can also sense lies/half-truths/self-deception, and see long-term consequences of actions. Anyway, I think a child of Athena will be the strongest before the fight starts. Maybe more flashy powers are that their attacks never miss the true target, or they can instantly adapt to enemy styles
I WISH we saw Annabeth talking to an owl, or Clarisse to a boar. If Percy can talk to ALL animals of the sea + horses, how come they can't?
