Love from loss WIP 2024
So you remember those pockets I wove into this fabric couple months ago? Back then I was charmed by the idea that I could hide a small item in there - I could give this fabric a secret that is part of its structure and impossible to get out unless you break the fabric itself.
So I wrote this little poem, a gentle call out for being curious enough to break my beautiful hand woven linen fabric and messaged my lovely sculptor/jewel smith friend.
Yesterday we were finally able to realize my vision! These tiny bronze plaques are made to hide in the fabric - peeking through shiny enough that you see that there is something there to tease at your imagination but - impossible to get out or read without breaking it.
hear ye, hear ye!

I finished knitting my first pair of socks please clap
Made them with a mystery cashmere blend yarn I bought second-hand and some kid silk mohair I wanted to use up. They are surprisingly comfy and not itchy.
congratulations on first socks knit! πππππππ
bestiary original designs... i abandoned the sparkles which is less whimsical but made for a much smoother color changing process in designs that already have lots of tiny details
ugh i love fiber art i love fiber artists i love the ways we express ourselves with fiber arts.
love the colors, the animals have such a strong presence. they tell stories

Wedding quilt for friends! Based (roughly) on the "true lover's knot" pattern, 7'x7'. Machine pieced, hand quilted.
stunning
Iβve been making a couple of things for myself lately that I need to post but Iβll start with the most recent - this incredible jumper I just finished!
Since itβs the middle of summer, I wonβt be able to wear it but the design came out exactly how I wanted. More details on my inspirations to come π·οΈ
i love your work. how do you do the colorwork? my guess would be intarsia or duplicate stitch?
ur stuff is so unique and original, ur one of my inspos as a queer fiber artist
i like the mottled yellow-green color
Its so so easy to start a new spindle project
what a beautiful spindle collection
"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)
Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".
Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH
If you've ever seen images of sweatshops in the early 20th century, in New York or the UK or other developed countries
Guess what
Your clothing is still made in a place that looks like that. The only thing that's different is the tech level of the sewing machines and the race of the workers οΏΌ

the people yearn for nonplastic fabrics
The only logical response to anyone so yearning is:
Don't Buy It.
When forced to participate in a system of capitalism - wield your power to purchase as a sharpened blade. Whenever possible or probable buy cotton, linen, & wool.
Understand that there's certain care requirements that go hand in hand with natural fibers and that you must be willing to get off the fad-fashion express. In short - you have to learn to iron & says NO to that cute top.
Buy natural, talk natural, support political candidates that hear you when you say NO to micro-fiber.
if non-plastic fabric stirs your ire - don't participate in that system when possible & be vocal about not participating.
