don't shave your legs this summer HOLD THE FUCKING LINE
i understand that it's unreasonable to expect a band on world tour to play in every country in the world but i do think they should only be allowed to call it a world tour if they play in every continent. we need to make it embarrassing to say world tour and then not even step foot in africa
that poll is crazy because first of all invoking the idea of "real" reading that is not defined in any way other than "like books or articles" is already invoking an extremely culturally loaded idea: we're taught that reading is good for you, that it inherently instructs and edifies, or if it's fiction that it inherently enriches the brain in some way, compared to "fake" reading which is like "junk food" (another loaded metaphor) and has no benefits to the soul and may even be detrimental. and this quality is conferred not by the strength of the ideas contained within said writing, or by the technical skill of said writing, but by its institutional approval: if it's published, it's "real". this is already the cultural baggage that is being brought to bear by the poll question, that you necessarily have to play along with in order to begin to entertain an answer - in other words, we are being asked if a post can contain the same amount of "value" as one of the kinds of "real" writing described above. notably, we are being asked if it CAN. not if it always or inherently is, but if it CAN. and i would think that the answer would be a resounding "yes", right? if "real" reading is defined by its ability to edify or put forth a complex argument, then people write essays with complex arguments in posts all the time. if "real" reading is defined by challenging the reader, people write challenging posts all the time. and so on and so forth. it bears repeating that right before reblogging that poll i reblogged a post that was a short story. these certainly don't comprise a majority of posts, but they do exist. and yet the overwhelmingly popular opinion is that a post on the internet, by virtue of being written on a platform that doesn't grant institutional literacy, CANNOT (no nuance!) be enriching, edifying, challenging, or any of the qualities ascribed to the cultural idea of "real" reading. not only that, but people who believe differently are being derided in the tags for their lack of intelligence or for being a symptom of social degeneration! (or that they're going to hell which is a very interestinggggg concept to invoke here) that's wild
it's been observed many times before but man it is kind of funny that Americans were so galled about the idea of foreign interference in the presidential election. Fuckkkkkk who would do something like that... Truly shameful behavior what kind of monstrous government would do something like that

under my totalitarian regime being a housewife will not be allowed. you WILL become an accomplished scientist
Finally getting back to watching Star Trek and I just finished The Trouble With Tribbles, which is genuinely a really good episode but it does end like the Milkshake Duck tweet
the among us show being a total gorefest on par with john carpenter's the thing is a really fun choice
the among us show having a gay orgy in the middle of it is another really fun choice
realizing many people don't know about infinity train creator owen dennis' among us show from years ago, which has been trapped in unreleased limbo all this time and was just dumped on streaming this morning with no advertisement. they don't even know about its weirdly stacked cast
I find it funny when
Oh my god FUCK OFF
The eye doctor is the most fun doctor you can go to. They never steal your blood. They never make you get naked and put on a paper dress. They're just like, "Can you see these letters? It's fine if you can't, we can fix that." And they don't even spell anything.

Shout-out to aromantic people whose lives are so fucking busy that they periodically forget what day of the week it is. today is Wednesday, June 5th. Happy Aromantic Visibility Day.

It's June 5th again!
Really hate that most people don’t understand the difference between “self-expression” and “artistic-expression.”
I say this as someone who sells pottery, and many people who see my art assume I am using art as an outlet to “express myself.”
I am not.
I use art to challenge myself. A lot of what I do is the equivalent of doing a hard sudoko or a half marathon, answering the question of “can I do this?”
I use art to question things and explore ideas. Finding physical synthesis between concepts and working out a design to its end state.
I use art to make money. I make some things just because I suspect they’ll sell well, and I keep making them when they do.
This idea that an artist is “putting themselves out there” every time they create is not only stupid, but harmful, and it kills critique and analysis.
Yes every creative work is influenced by its creator, but the most preliminary step of analysis is to define the purpose of a work of art (functional, narrative, entertainment, persuasive, decorative, ceremonial, etc.) and a vanishingly small percentage of that is self-expression. Even then, it’s generally tied to the self’s relationship with something else—perception, society, etc.
It’s very tiresome to have people assume they know you because they like (or dislike) your art, to make assumptions about who you are and how you approach the world. It’s nothing new— people called the Impressionists insane and the Fauvists degenerate. And now people are expected to hand out their identities and traumas to prove they have the right to explore certain subjects.
But to actually understand art, you have to contextualize it beyond assuming it’s just what the artist felt like making at the moment and it’s somehow coming from their deepest soul, or you’ll badly misinterpret most art you come across.

Nigerian Pride 🏳️🌈🇳🇬
I meant to have this out yesterday. Happy belated pride. :)
I'm glad you all like the Nigeria Pride post!
Originally, I went in worried the opposite would happen. Growing up, I've been taught that Nigeria, the country, is homophobic. (I was born in America.) But over time, I learned that there's tons of other queer Nigerians; some are out, and some are in the closet 😭.
I'm also not used to this much attention, lol
Thank you all!
do u think omegaverse acknowledges covid-19 and the generation of people who permanently lost their sense of smell like how are they all scenting each other now is the omegaverse economy in shambles
actually pheromone sensing works differently from normal olfaction, since humans in our world don’t have a functioning vomeronasal organ (VNO), we don’t have any data on how covid-19 would affect a functioning VNO in omegaverse AUs
Actually there is evidence that covid probably would affect the VNO and it stands to reason would accordingly impair its function. Briefly:
SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes covid, can only infect cells expressing a certain protein called ACE2
ACE2 is expressed widely in nasal cavity epithelial cells but not in olfactory sensory neurons.
Seo et al. (2021) studied potential nasal targets for SARS-CoV-2 using golden hamsters as a model organism (commonly used as a proxy for humans in virology studies)
They found ACE2 expression in the main olfactory bulb epithelium (MOE, your “normal” nose organ) as well as the vomeronasal organ (VNO)
Several cell types in the VNO were able to be infected and they also found significant inflammatory activity (macrophage activation, apoptotic cells, etc)
The specifics of how covid actually causes dysosmia are not known for sure but epithelial damage by local inflammatory immune responses likely plays a role, especially because sensory neurons themselves are not affected (Bilinska, & Butowt, 2020). Therefore I would suggest a potential similar effect of VNO dysfunction as we see in the main olfactory bulb
From Seo et al.: “Considering the function of the VNO, infection and subsequent pathologic changes may affect the behavior of Syrian hamsters”
If it stands to reason that omegaverse individuals have functioning VNOs similar to members of the animal kingdom, then it is more than reasonable to conclude that covid may cause them to lose not only their main olfactory function, but also their VNO function as well

In conclusion the omegaverse economy IS in shambles.
OP this is very well-written but im still hung up on how you came onstage dressed as a clown only to tear off the costume and reveal yourself as a biologist
