I bought a mini sourdough loaf. It's been sitting on my kitchen counter for the last two days because I don't have the appropriate knife for it and I can't be bothered to go out to the garage to check if I have one.
You have to use a certain knife?
Serrated bread knife. The teeth of the knife saws through the crust so you don't swish the loaf.
Same principle as tomatoes. You can use other knifes - I got into my mini loaf with a reusable plastic one - but it's recommended you use a serrated knife. I want to say that it's one of those "I come from bakers" things, but it's something my mum instilled in me, so it's a "my great-grandmother ran a cake shop in the 40s" thing.
Ohhhh, yeah, I don’t really have bread that often, and if I do, it’s precut. That makes sense, though.
Honestly, same. That's why I'm in the position I'm in.
It's one of those "common knowledge that's been phased out due to the industrialised of the food chain" like how submersing the bird in boiling water makes it easier to pluck its feathers.. We don't need to know if think about it because Steggles/Tyson does it for us.
Tear it apart with your hands like a medieval traveler in a tavern.
