I think another one of my problems with OBAA is that its portrayal of women was offensive. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. I thought Leo was a goner for sure (I’ve seen Titanic too many times). I just didn’t think Oscar winner when I saw it because it had a few aspects that rubbed me the wrong way and I kinda feel like in other ways it’s too similar to Anora, which is weird, but a lot of movies seem to have chase scenes lately. Frankenstein, Sinners, and Hamnet were my favorites out of the nominees (yes, in that order) because they felt fresh to me, even if not original ideas.
While watching this, it’s occurred to me that I don’t miss The Bachelor franchise at all.
There are legends of people born with the gift of making music so true, it can pierce the veil between life and death.

Course we can’t give genre films best picture. It’s so elitist. Why do they bother nominating fantasy, science fiction, and horror?!?!? I’m tired of the false hope. On the off chance, they decide to go for another The Shape of Water?!? And like La La Land was the last best chance for a musical to win and it still didn’t, even though I’m not mad about that upset.
Yeah, I had a gut feeling Sinners wasn’t going to win best original song either. *sighs*
Not that I agree with it (I have my (animation snob) issues with it), but Golden's (assuming it won) been a lock since it the song became a hit.
It’s weird because usually they don’t give a shit about hype anymore when it comes to best original song. Like We Don’t Talk About Bruno got the shaft. It wasn’t even nominated. They chose the artsy song from Encanto instead.
I think it goes back and forth. Some years it's based on merit, some years it's hype, some years it's whoever the fuck.
It’s so annoying. Music is so subjective anyways. I mean, we would know, right?
Like, the song isn't my thing. The whole movie is. The frame rate's weird, the story is "how to make an inspirational animated movie in the 2020s" 101. And the song is far too overprocessed for my liking. But considering how popular the movie is, it's easy brownie points.
I know, right?
Hoppers is my favorite animated movie that I’ve seen within the past 12 months, but…that’s next cycle. It really resonated with me.
I mean, my favourite "new" animated movie I watched in the last 12 months was Ethel & Ernest, but that was released in 2016...
I'm still pissed about Flow winning over Memoirs of A Snail, but that's an Australian thing.
I don’t blame you.
What did I miss with One Battle After Another?!?!? I saw it and it just…was not one of my favorites. Is it because it has a political message in a more modern context?
The. Fuck.
Most likely going to end up disappointed with best picture.

Jessie Buckley is a respectable choice. Thank you. Pink is definitely the color of the night.
Who the fuck is going to win best actress?
Cheers to someone hot winning because I’m deeply shallow. No, I actually really loved Sinners and the twins.

Holy shit, they actually gave best actor to Michael B. Jordan! It’s a fucking miracle!
