i feel like dying in ep 39 and being peacefully laid to rest and finally being free and possibly even getting to spend the rest of his afterlife with the one person he’s been desperately missing and trying to appease and basing most of his identity off of since day 1 would have been, comparatively, a better and more cathartic ending for ashe’s story than him spending one last day playing with his friends like he’s the family dog about to be put down before going off to college to be alone again and barely developing and having to live the rest of his life with nearly all the same horrible fears and regrets and other issues as before (and never addressing how his extreme guilt over the pain and death he caused the first time he was possessed would likely be 100x worse this time as a result of the trickster’s actions because we don’t have time for that lol). especially because IMO the first option is a more satisfying explanation as to why he can’t be involved in the story than what we got
