You're hurt... Did they try to capture you?” “I got away... But their blades were poisoned. Can you help?”
Lily and Mara?
[made a whole new AU for this one]
Lily gasped in horror on seeing her friend. And oh, how new it still felt to have a friend! Mara had snuck into the Necropolis three months ago, hiding out from something or someone. Lily did not like to press her too hard over the details but she let slip something about an Alienage once which was confusing as she had Dalish vallaslin. Specifically the winding branches of Mythal, mother, justice, retribution.
The girl was the same age as Lily, half starved and terrified.
For the first time ever Lily broke a rule. She let Mara stay hidden. Even shared her room, her bed. Like sisters, she told herself even though more than once she forgot her studies of funerary rites of the Avvar in favour of the tattooed branches on Mara's slumbering face. Her pillowy bottom lip. Her body pressed close to hers...Mara had a way of looking at her sometimes with those impossibly green eyes like Lily stood naked before her and spirits help her Lily liked it.
But Mara was made for fresh air and sunshine. Fruit plucked from the tree, birdsong, and soft grass beneath her feet. So just as she snuck into the Necropolis she would sneak out. She always came back of course, often with a little treasure to share with Lily. Pockets of strawberries. A blue feather. A bottle of dandelion wine. A pebble with a hole through it.
It was during one of these outings that the Crows saw her. House Valisti had taken the contract and spotted her as she negotiated with a baker for a slightly burnt bun prepared with halla butter. Lilypad had never tried it and it was tricky to find here. The slash was quick and shallow along her waist. A trickle of blood but the poison...it sent Mara to her knees in a white hot agony. The leather clad blonde circled her and scoffed at the pathetic knife ear but Mara managed to grab a fistful of burning embers that cooked the skin on her palm until she threw them in the blondes face and made her stumbling escape.
Adrenaline got her back to the Necropolis. It was risky though, if they hurt Lily because of her...but Lily was all Mara had. The first...the only person to be kind to her. Mara felt safe and accepted with her. She crawled the last few feet to her room and passed out on the floor.
Lily's strangled scream woke her. Was someone hurting Lily? Mara tried to rise, a knife in her burnt hand, prepared to use the little strength left to protect her Lilypad, but no. No they were alone. It was her that made Lily scream (and not the way she fantasised about). The slash to her side throbbed angrily, the veins nearest the wound had turned black and it felt like acid in her blood.
"You're hurt..." Lily sobbed. "Did they try to capture you?"
"I got away..." Mara fell back onto the rug and she was so sorry that she had ruined Lily's nice rug with her blood that she could cry if her eyes didn't feel like they were dusted in glass. "But their blades were poisoned. Can you help?"
Mara fell back into merciful unconsciousness before she could hear the reply. Her only clear thought was that Lily was safe.
Lily works for 24 hours straight to get that antidote, her hands shaking and terrified. Her only friend!!!
I need more details about this AU STAT❤️
basically after the Alienage attack Mara fled to Nevarra instead of Arlathan and the father of her main attacker hired House Valisti to go after her. Also our girls are like 17 and crushing HARD on each other
YES OMG
Mara being confined to Lily’s room as she heals her. Gentle touches and whispers
Mara fading in and out of consciousness. Rambling deliriously in common and Dalish. Sometimes she is begging her Mamae not to leave her, others apologising for ruining Lily's rug-her mind seems fixed on that for whatever reason. Once she spikes a fever so high you could boil water on her forehead.
Lily pouring healing magic into her, nearly passing out herself. If anyone notices her absence, they can’t find her. She has to save Mara.
Eventually Mara wakes up. Weak but alive. Stable even. She expected to be alone again but no, Lilypad is curled up right beside her.
Lily stirs when Mara does, checking her pulse, her temperature, her wound. She gets so worked up she hugs Mara, tucking her face in the crook of her neck, crying a little.
Mara holds her close. No one has ever taken care of her before and she is so relieved that Lily is unharmed and safe. She looks exhausted and beautiful and it is her, her Lilypad
No one has ever meant this much to Lily before. She had been terrified that she was going to lose Mara.
But she’s alive and well
Lily nurses her back to strength. Learning how to cook to keep her well fed. Spirits she had desperately contacted stop by to check in
For once she doesn’t feel desperately alone
Every morning she expects Mara to slink off.
