Okay we've seen the upper limits of what an astronomical budget for filmmaking can do. Let's cap the budget at $500,000 for a few years and see what film teams forced to get creative and utilize unknown actors produce.
This post is a thought experiment about the potential for small budget independent movie productions and nothing else. It’s NOT about wealthy corporations using AI to cut corners and it’s certainly not about TV shows with multi million dollar budgets thanks to Canadian government grants.
If you can only dismiss the spirit of the post bc you can’t conceive of a well made production on a limited budget that’s a skill issue. There’s tons of small Arthurian projects I love that fit this exact premise. Have you heard of Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Yeah. Exactly. More of that please.
@jubjubbird THANK YOU! YOU GET IT!
Actually, my therapist has told me this is a healthy way of processing things. Because you can get the trauma out of your head And you can write the ending you wish it had. The trusted person rescue, the catharsis of getting to kill the one who hurt you.
It's good for your brain. It's healthier than bottling it up. Fiction is where we go for emotional release. That can be true with trauma too.
so what you're saying is
character: NO
therapist: YES
Adding @dear-massacre's tags because they are so true:
#this is why it's important to remember that fictional characters are fake #they have no agency. they're made up #it hurts no one to make any character go through the horrors #it is healthy and cathartic
yeah okay ill reblog that
Also, reading works for it too. Not everyone has the drive or habits to put a character through the horrors as a coping mechanism, but reading is more accessible.
That's why censorship is bad.
(Also, humans are fully capable of repressing traumatic memories, so if you don't know WHY you feel the urge to write or read characters being put through the horrors... Do it anyway, you might remember exactly why you had that urge later on, once the fictional catharsis has helped you process the trauma enough that your brain stops repressing the memories in order to protect you.)
You can now watch full episodes!

While I understand the desire to make Big Art entirely and viscerally I think it's worth considering that small art often leaves an outsized impact on its audience. Short stories, teensy indie games, short films, sketches on scrap paper, carved or sculpted figures that would fit in the palm of your hand, etc. etc. are all things that, when they hit your psyche at just the right angle, can stay lodged in there forever specifically because they are small. It is not necessary for a thing to be sprawling for it to have impact.
I GOOGLED "LOKI AND THOR" AND THIS CAME UP:

Trans people just existing is no more sexual than when cis people just exist.

No but for real the ultimate dichotomy of man is Shane Hollander saying "Please cum on me please cum on my face" and then getting what he wants and saying "Ohhh my God" and then sitting back and sighing with relief and then with his eyes still closed saying "Get this off me right now."
