some truly awful camerawork here from me but it's a cabled sleeveless jumper thing I made last year! made some self drafted pockets which I added later
could not tell you where the pattern for this was from or how long it took or any specifics as this was during a surgery recovery and I had BRAIN FOG the whole time lol

while iβve started on the twin peaks sampler trust i am still making progress on the breakup sampler! the closer i get to being done the more i love it!!
i have some really dense patterns still left to go but theyβre going to look so sick !!!!! i think i will add loops on the back to hang it from a dowel similar to quilts to show off the fringe once im done :)

quilted wall-hanging i finally finished up! this is hand-painted with ferrous and alum based pastes, then i dyed the fabric with different natural pigments-- first pomegranate and then madder. the borders were initially dyed with japanese knotweed, then painted and overdyed with madder. the binding is osage modified with iron and the backing is wattle overdyed with madder and then modified with iron ^_^ this thing is like... maybe 24" tall but i dont feel like measuring it right now, oops
Just in time for Moon Day Monday, I finished my quilt!
I learned many things on this one, including:
- nesting your seams is a thing and it really helps with nice aligned corners, who knew??
- inset circles. Now I fear nothing, including God
- how to use the long arm with a pantograph
- the easy way to change thread on the long arm because the inner blocks were too light for the medium grey thread I was using
- how to stress out my grandfather stopping at various points on the pantograph because I wanted to do something different in the moons and finally
- fun things about free motion quilting, so I could put the correct textures of our beautiful lady into the different phases on the blocks.
The pattern is a mish mash of the Moon Portal quilt pattern by The Water Spirit and the Plaid-ish 2 from Erica Jackman of Kitchen Table quilting, plus some cathedral window blocks for the stars in various sizes.
Welp, suppose I should see what the current iteration of the purple teifling is up to, now that Darktow is on Beacon...
Think I'm gonna start adding saffron to my cocoa mix alongside the usual cinnamom/chili/vanilla mix. Quite like the combination.

late summer / early fall thoughts
"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)
Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".
Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH
If you've ever seen images of sweatshops in the early 20th century, in New York or the UK or other developed countries
Guess what
Your clothing is still made in a place that looks like that. The only thing that's different is the tech level of the sewing machines and the race of the workers οΏΌ
This also applies to all plushies. Every single plushie is made by people, there is no way to make them without human labour.
Unless you buy them from small scale makers who make them themselves, this means they were made in a factory, the same way clothing is.
