While the international community speaks of the genocide and ethnic cleansing we are enduring, we are focusing on the details of this urgent crisis moment by moment.
My family and I are surrounded by winter's relentless bombardment. Shrapnel rains down on our heads and inside our tattered tent, leaving us without even the most basic protection. Flying in a torn tent offers no shelter from the bitter cold or the scorching summer heat. Every day we bid farewell to the martyrs of the revolution, witnessing children lose their lives before our very eyes, while we and our children suffer from a profound lack of basic necessities.
We need your help, not to dismantle our tent, but to provide us with the food and medicine we desperately need to survive. I implore you not to abandon us in these circumstances.
This is so real

I kind of wish there was a thing called a Therapy Assessor and you could choose to direct it at specific people somehow and when it got done assessing it would pop up with a message something like, "Congratulations! Your unhealed trauma is making you (X)% more miserable and making those around you (X)% more miserable. You are required to take a temporary paid leave for a week of mandatory therapy." And then because this is an Ideal Scenario the therapy would be exactly what they need with none of the power imbalance issues etc. besides the fact that it's mandatory for a week. And then the person would probably be happier and the world would probably be happier. And like I know there are lots of ethical and logistical problems with this daydream, but I just really wish I could push a button and get some people into the therapy they clearly need.
These days, lots of public libraries have a "library of things" collection where you can check out kitchen appliances or yard tools or toys, and, as a children's library assistant, the most popular library of things item that I handle regularly is a plastic scepter thingy called like "unicorn princess magic wand". And whenever I check it out I make a big show of looking at the little kid and being like "do you solemnly swear to use your unicorn princess magic powers only for good and never for evil?"
And pretty much without fail, the little kid will get the world's most mischievous grin and go "I'm gonna use it for EVIL!!!"
incredibly bizarre and confusing seeing ppl call themselves "chuds" all the sudden b/c like
thats what we call neo nazis and shitty conservative bros? or at least its what we used to call them? why are ppl calling themselves "chuds" affectionately now
what is happening
yall know chud means fascist right like please tell me yall know that
im hoping this is a case of "younger folks on the internet adopting Silly Word b/c its Silly and not realizing it actually means something"
so here's me educating! you're calling yourselves fascists! thats what you're doing! maybe don't do that and use your head before you start using every goofy word you see!
let me be agonizingly clear
when you call yourself and your friends "chuds"
YOU
ARE
CALLING
YOURSELF
A
NAZI

A reminder: "TND" is a Nazi dogwhistle, originating from the phrase "total (n slur) death."
"A snack? For me?"
smoking that shit that made the Miocene epic

Ice beam is low-key a sauceless "standard" move for its type
Earthquake? That is THE ground move. The ground quakes beneath you.
Surf? A giant wave of water that your pokemon can ride. A thunderous tide. Invokes the ocean.
Thunderbolt? Arcing flashes of electricity zap you.
Flamethrower? Fire breath, fire throwing, an arc of propelled flame is classic.
Ice beam? It's a beam. Of ice. Could've been a gust of frigid wind, or a frost incursion, or being entombed in a glacial slab, but noooooo it's a beam. Of ice.
yes but it goes foowaaaa ting ting ting ting ting ting and i really like that part
Fuck you're right post cancelled

Don’t let the government convince you to not care about disabled people
I mean, they already did when Biden said "it's safe to re-open schools" while separated by 20 ft from a reporter with millions-of-dollars of special HVAC pumping clean air onto him and Fauci said "the high risk will fall to the wayside, and some will die" and then everyone took off their masks and we had the Delta wave :)
I think people need to reckon with how frequently they already devalue disabled life and work to rectify how they show up for disabled people around them with their political and moral beliefs instead of worrying about falling for the propaganda. They drank the flavor-aid years ago, and that's gotta be pointed out clearly.
Rich people are literally just lying about being good at money btw
Things like overdraft fees, late fees, parking tickets, fines, subscription renewals, legal fees, penalty fees, sales and discounts, lawsuits - these are things that all cease to matter in any material way once you have enough money
To Jeff Bezos, a parking meter, a plane ticket, and a private jet all effectively cost the same amount of money: none
My wealthiest aunt credits her fortune to her financial acumen. Last year, her husband died (making her even wealthier), and as she was grieving her children stepped up to help her out with things.
Turns out she is terrible with money. Like, she had multiple copies of the same subscriptions, was overpaying to keep multiple homes maintained, and generally can't budget to save her life. Also, so many things that she assumed were "perks" of her credit card program were actually just her husband paying for upgrades behind her back.
But it doesn't matter because she already has enough money to make problems go away. She can afford to be stupid with it and still think of herself as smart and poor people as dumb.
I can't stand this shit. This is the kind of rich person behavior that simultaneously makes me envious and angry.
I don't care that they have more stuff than I do, but I do envy that they have more slack. That they can afford to forget things, to be inefficient, or wasteful, and it doesn't matter.
Which is fine by me if you are properly grateful and understand that's what's happening, but good lord it drives me up the wall when people who are terrible with money castigate the poor for being bad at money. When the person who has a bunch of duplicate subscription services they forgot about lectures the destitute about how irresponsible it is to order Doordash, I get enraged.
"Do as I say, not as I do" has infuriated me since I was a child and that irritation has never left me.
I do wonder if there is some kind of repressed self-hatred there.
Like a kind of guilt that if you had all this wealth and privilege without "earning" it that would somehow be immoral, or a lingering sense that it's only luck that you are where you are, so you try to build this synthetic world where actually you did earn it and the reason you're better off than other people is that you deserve to be.
This is also why I can't stand Republican approaches to medicaid and food stamps and all that shit, they are so obsessed with taking away slack from the destitute.
A long time ago, I don't even remember what social media I saw this on, but I saw somebody talking about how they grew up really poor, but had gotten a good job, and how incredible it felt the first time they bought a book because they felt like buying a book.
Because there are a lot of people out there who are going to overdraw their checking account if they spend that $8 on a paperback without carefully looking over their budget.
And I can relate to that. I cannot tell you how much it improved my mental health when I got to the point where I could buy a latte or a paperback and not have to worry that I had completely destroyed my budget for the next month.
I know at least one person who spends as much money as she gets without realizing it, but when I got the freedom to buy a latte if I felt like it?
It got easier not to buy lattes. Because it was my choice, because I could think about putting the money away as savings, not as a choice, and because I knew I could change my mind later, the decision seemed less momentous.
I mean, can you imagine if people sometimes shopped less because of a direct material need, and more as a psychological effort to exert control over their lives?
Why, if that were the case, things like restricting what you can buy with food stamps might actually be counterproductive. But fortunately we live in a world where all economic activity is rational attempts to meet material needs, so that's not a problem.
Thought this was a good chart to add here, because I’m so tired of explaining myself. I’m sure most of you are, too.

so i hauve covid rn and i must say, American cold medicine is the absolute bees knees. You go to a UK pharmacy and they tenderly press like eight (8) paracetamol into the palm of your hand... God FORBID you're sick in France, i had to scour every pharmacy in Paris for something that wasn't HOMEOPATHIC PASTILLES. meanwhile last night i took the last of my stash of Nyquil that expired in 2019 and it was like getting hit by a fucking baseball bat (affectionate). press X to timeskip. LOVE me a cheeky little medically induced coma. you can really feel that it's a precursor to meth. i know that everything is fucking awful over there my friedns and my heart goes out to every one of you but if you need one small bright light of national pride in this time of strife please know that i envy you your cold medicine every day
i once took an american antihistamine pill just a basic one for seasonal allergies and i had to immediately lay down and while doing so i vividly hallucinated that i was a steerage passenger on the titanic resigned to my death as my cabin filled up rapidly with water. then i blacked out and when i woke up again my allergies were gone for the entire season.
