man I feel really bad for kids homeschooled who didn't turn out as lucky as me
yes, Ive had. extreme isolation problems because of this, but theyre healing now thank fuck because when I was 12 I got into community arts and some local homeschool organizations. However before that? I had 2 friends I saw. one I saw maybe once or twice a year, the other only once every few months. and I didn't talk to them through text or anything as I wasn't allowed it. I had a small friend group of me, my sister and 2 other kids, and I had some older siblings who exposed me normal things I didn't get to experience. However all this IS and HAS been getting better. my parents have gotten better morally now that ive learned how to communicate things to them, especially my mom, and they're both a lot more open minded now (I have social media, I changed to online school with a community, etc)
however I know kids homeschooled who are my age or sometimes OLDER and are literally, almost entirely excluded from society besides our small bigoted hometown. I have one who made a joke saying something about her being super sheltered as if it was an okay thing. i have SO MANY friends who are unfortunately going through terrible teenage years due to their parents and homeschooling. all in different ways but its VERY saddening to see. some are aware, some are totally brainwashed to the fact.
i look around me and see how things have healed for me but NOT for some of my friends. like these kids' parents are using stuff like homeschooling or gate keeping as an indoctrination tool. it's terrifying and disgusting and terrible. As much as ive been through in the past with homeschool, Ive managed to get out of that place to where I value homeschooling myself, especially now being in a social and inclusive curriculum. however it SUCKS that this shit can so easily be twisted to threat kids like objects or playthings or vessels for adults' own sick ideals. I'm glad I avoided it but it makes me so upset to see my OWN FRIENDS being abused, manipulated and indoctrinated in these ways
