So many people who wanna argue with me about King Arthur clearly havenāt read the actual medieval texts. I know this because if they actually read the source material theyād know that when it comes to King Arthur, everything is made up and the points donāt matter.
āKing Arthur couldnāt have fought the Roman Empireā
Try telling that to Geoffrey of Monmouth.
āYou canāt just add in new charactersā
Try telling that to ChrƩtien de Troyes. Aka the guy who invented Lancelot.
āArthurian canon isnāt Frenchā
Clearly you donāt own an air fryer. Also clearly you havenāt read literally anything written after the Norman invasion.
āArthur needs to be a knight in shining armorā
If he lived at all he lived almost a thousand years before widespread adaption of plate armor.
āHe canāt be in plate armor because thatās anachronisticā
Try telling that to Thomas Mallory.
āThe fairy stuff is leftover from Celtic myth/Celtic gods)
A lot of that stuff including the lady of the lake wasnāt added until the 12th century actually. Centuries after England was christianized. It was also mostly added by the French poets.
God, I sure hope so.
It can be counted as arthurian legend now if you're not a coward.
I cannot get this poem out of my head. It haunts me. Joyously, it haunts me.Ā
This poem format is my favorite thing and this is the first time Iāve ever seen itās origin story. I love it. Every time.
THE SACRED TEXTS!
I forgot the context! Itās beautiful!
"[Y]our Harry Potter games are Cybertrucks" is such a good way to put it.

"happy valentines" so you support driving the snakes out of ireland? unbelievable
wait that's st patrick. hold on gimme a minute to research a reason why st valentine is also problematic
*getting sucked down the rabbit hole* hold up there were at least THREE OF HIM?
huh, sure no one's actually sure who the hell this guy was. not in a "the catholic church basically invented him" way (bc they do do that) but because all we really know about him is he was gruesomely murdered martyred around February 14. and it turns out there are at least THREE dudes named Valentine who fit that description
it gets crazier, there are at least eleven other Saint Valentines because 'Valentine' was a stupidly popular name. so stupidly popular that multiple ones got murdered on the same day. Feb 14 was just a particularly shitty day for guys named Valentine.
"happy valentines" oh yeah? WHICH ONE
"happy valentines" no they fuck they weren't

people DESPERATE in the notes to explain why the way THEY engage with harry potter is morally pure. It's like white people talking about rap music in there! Libraries buy the books! Fanfiction maintains a conversation around the IP! There is NO WAY to enjoy harry potter in 2025 without publicly supporting JK Rowling!

Oh damn what a surprise ā Ravi treating Buck better than Eddie ever did (or currently is). Dare I say, Toxic-Buddie on main once again?
this "negative" review of guillermo del toro's upcoming frankenstein movie is everything to me
"The Mexican director has chosen to emphasise the romanticism at the expense of the horror. Elordi plays the creature as a misunderstood, James Dean-like outsider with Oedipal issues rather than as an agent of evil and chaos. Even if his face and torso are latticed with suitably grotesque scars, staples and stitches, he is not only the most sympathetic character in the movie but the best-looking one too. Itās left to Oscar Isaac to provide the real villainy as the brilliant but egomaniacal scientist, Victor Frankenstein..."
HELLO YES IT'S ME, MARY SHELLEY CALLING, JUST WANTED TO ASK IF YOU'VE EVER SEEN A GUILLERMO DEL TORO MOVIE OR... I DON'T KNOW... READ MY BOOK?
"The film lurches between scenes of lush romantic melodrama and moments of Grand Guignol bloodletting."
*bangs fists on table* SIGN! ME! THE! FUCK! UP!
"You drink lemonade? Ugh. Enjoy your lemon-water-sugar concoction, idiot."
Thank you, I will. It's why I ordered the lemonade.

Question from someone who only watched the first season of Teen Wolf when it was originally airing and never continued after that - why is Sterek a more popular ship than Scott and Stiles? (Do they even have a ship name??? Sciles???) I would have thought the best friend to lovers angle would have made it the number one ship, but I only ever see Stiles and Derek hyped up.
I need to know the tea pls and thank you š
I was originally gonna put this in the comments but I realized it might be too long so I'll reblog instead. I'm a late comer to the show but I do have a good feel on why Sterek is so popular.
1. I think a huge part of it is the chemistry between Tyler Hoechlin and Dylan O'Brien. Their chemistry bled through into their characters. It happens a lot when costars start dating but these two weren't even dating!
2. Dark and broody/sunshine and hyperactive is quite popular in all fandoms and they definitely have that.
3. The enemies to lovers trope. Stiles and Derek are perfect for this trope (it's one of my favorites) and as they slowly start to become friends, the bickering and picking on each other becomes more playful.
4. The looks they give each other. I don't know if they were directed to look at each other with longing, pining looks or if it just came naturally, but the way they look at each other at times is like they yearn for the other and don't even know it yet. The looks progress as the show goes on but we see some in s1.
5. Their dynamic is just so good. Like I started shipping them from the first episode.
6. It's clear Stiles finds Derek attractive. The way he looks at Derek at times, several times in s1, just screams, "Holy shit he's hot! What the fuck?! How are those abs real?! It should be illegal to be that hot!" Seriously, I don't know if this was intentional or what, but Stiles does have moments where it's clear he's not entirely straight.
I tried to go by just s1, but yeah. It's stressed how close Stiles and Scott are, that they see each other as brothers from another mother, so that's how I saw them. Sciles is still a cute ship, best friends to lovers is always sweet. But there's just something so good about enemies to lovers.
Iām obsessed with this long and thoughtful response. Thank you for being so detailed in your response!! I can absolutely see how they grew to be such a popular ship if the chemistry was this insane. I think Iām actually going to need to watch the show now because all the answers Iām getting are really making them sound like the enemies to lovers ship!
Also justice for my boy S1 Scott - it feels like he really didnāt deserve the character assassination the writers apparently gave him š
My thoughts on Scott: he's not a terrible character, it's just pretty clear (at least to me) the writers saw the love of Stiles and ran with it and they gave Scott pretty shit lines and storylines. Like if it didn't involve a girl or the main storyline, thats all their was for him. I'd roll my eyes whenever he came on because his whole character is just "My current girlfriend needs me!!!" Whereas Stiles will have this whole separate storyline committed to the actual plot or something that will tie in. Like the previous replier said, BOTH boys fuck up, I mean they are kids after all, but I PERSONALLY find Scott to not be that good of a friend to Stiles and s5&6 really test their friendship and in my opinon while both boys suck at communication, Scott not only drops the ball, but slams it on the ground and stomps all over it and then gives his puppy eyes as his sorry, and doesn't even say it and that's where their spat ends.
Derek never once ignores Stiles wants or needs. He believes his every word in the short times he knows him even over his current love interests word at one point just by looking at Stiles face he knows who to believe, whereas at one point Scott doesn't even Spare Stiles a chance to defend himself, he just outright believes someone else over his childhood best friend who committed his whole high school career to helping him figure out his werewolf stuff, and that's where I lost all respect for Scott, because he didnt stop and think 'Hmmm thats out of charcter for my brother Stiles unless necessary, let me go find him and actually ask wtf this all is and hear his side'. I can get past the girl obsession because... well that's mild, but *that* story line, and I truly truly hope you watch and I would LOVEEEE to hear your thoughts if you do (give us the boys of live blogging please) but *that* storyline ruined him for me, again personally.
Derek though... man he does some questionable shit, the writers do him dirty a few times but Sterek will always have my heart because the fandom grew past the show. I mean, we have writers in this fandom, that i've never even watched the show and still put out some of the most amazing work for the ship. That's why I say that I feel like they are just baseline characters for a whole nother world that gets created, that many just love their characters and like building worlds around them, that's why I enjoy it so much.
Again, all of these are my personal thoughts. None of this is set in stone, besides, in my own brain. If you don't agree, please just create your own separate response to op question.
Oh see thatās so interesting - thanks for providing such a clear comparison of two situations (without any spoilers too yay)! I can see how the two very different actions and approaches would have been taken by the fandom. Willful miscommunication strikes again.
I can also see how itās possible that Scott was neglected by the writers when other characters and storylines may have interested them more. Season One Scott was so clearly set up to be main character, but even my foggy recollection gives more credit to Stiles for driving the energy of the show. And if a new character showed up that not only matched his energy, but increased it with chemistry? Then no wonder Scott was put to the side in favour of exploring that. Iām speculating obviously based off what Iāve seen in these replies - Iāll have to see for myself how the later seasons went!
I think Iāll definitely need to add it to my watchlist and do some live-blogging along the way š Iām not expecting miracles - this is a 2010s teen drama after all. But by god if I was able to survive Destiel I can survive this too.
(Also at this point I need to watch it just to get the ages right because unfortunately in my head all Iām picturing is High School Stiles with some Stranger Danger Adult rolling into town and everyone being cool with them hanging out because of the whole werewolf thing. Like, Iām sure itās NOT thatā¦but I need that confirmation lol)
Scott is still very much the main character, and it's still 'his' show but Stiles I would say definitely had more interesting storylines and personality. Scott's whole thing is being good, never killing anyone and having a girlfriend or love interest. Of course Stiles was obsessed with Lydia and I always found that problematic and very clearly romanticized by male writing which I didn't like, and he had his own love interests, but I often found his world (besides the weird Lydia obsession) didn't revolve around girls, he was in love with solving mysteries and learning about the supernatural... Also he's funny af š
I will admit, there is an age gap and in no way are they even (on screen) best friends or anything, there obviously had to of been some relationship building off screen between the characters because of how Stiles supports Derek at moments and s6 sterek makes me all giggly because they obviously had a road trip or traveled together off screen or something (Stiles is graduated at this point), but Dylan (Stiles) got injured filming The Maze Runner so they had to cut a whole chunk of whatever Stiles and potential sterek (friendship) storyline there was because of his injury. To my knowledge, both Dylan and Tyler were pro Sterek though š¤·
Now the timing in Teen wolf is an anomaly itself... And Dereks age? Jfc 𤦠Derek is supposedly 18-20 in season one because Stiles makes a comment of Derek once going to school with them and being only a few years older. Later on in like season 3 or 4 his ID says he's like 24? or something like that? So they aged him up at some point, my guess is that he just did not look his age at all š He has a few questionable moments, a few things that... well very clearly male written moments I don't appreciate and find problematic, same as the Lydia obsession, but its a 2010 teenage werewolf show written by men, I don't expect it to NOT be problematic.
If Sterek was canon, in my head it was after Stiles graduated, it's legal for one, no matter what age Derek really is, and makes the most sense ultimately in my opinon with the storylines.
Please watch it and let us live through you with live blogging, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Shit I'll give you my discord and be your personal ear to hear it allll and gush with.
But the movie... Well we don't talk about that š
Well said! And omg I just realized I'm not following you and I honestly thought I was so I'm totally following you after I finish typing this because I love your takes.
For the ages op, Scott and Stiles are 16. Now Derek is tricky because the original script said he was 19. But his id in s1 (that Jeff Davis said was a fake id) said he just turned 22. Some believe the id was fake because he really was younger, some believe it was fake for an unknown reason, and some believe that Jeff made it up.
I don't remember what his id said in s3/s4, but since his id in s1 said 22, then by how long in between s1 and s3/s4, it would be about right for it to say 24.
Now, I find that Derek looks incredibly young in s1. But there are those who think he looks like he's over 25. I don't know why, Tyler was 23 when filming s1 and he looked way younger than that. Compared to Crystal who was 26 (I believe) when filming s1 and Allison just turns 17. I do know when Derek had facial hair it did make him look a little older, but not 25+.
I think (my own personal opinion) that some people like to make Derek out to be way older than what he is (and some try to make Stiles even younger than he is, I've seen some say 14 and 15 which he has to be at least 16 due to being able to drive without a licensed adult in the front seat), is because they hate the ship Sterek and want to justify it and insisting that Derek is like 30 in s1 while Stiles is for sure 16 in s1, then they can "rightfully" shame us. At most, Derek is 22 in s1. But there are some who go by Jeff saying his id was fake and believe he still was the original age 19.
I don't like going by how someone looks to judge what their age is. I'm 34 and people still think I'm under 20. I've seen high schoolers look like they are in their mid twenties. How young/old someone looks doesn't mean anything to what their actual age is.
Some believe they aged Derek up due to the Kate plotline of her grooming him and then sexually assaulting him to ultimately kill his whole family. Because if they hadn't, then his age would have been around 13 at the time of the fire. But it was a running joke among fans and the cast that no one actually knew Derek's real age. When asked at a con, Tyler had no idea, and he played Derek! Lol
Some of the cast shipped Sterek, Dylan and Tyler even hyped it up for the ship to be voted for in an award show thing. They have a video of them being cuddly and asking viewers to vote for Sterek. It's hilarious and cute.
If Derek is only 19 in s1, then that age gap is honestly not that bad. Plus considering Derek's trauma stunting his growth and Stiles having to grow up too fast at such a young age with his mom dying, they seem to be on the same level (but that's my personal opinion).
In all honesty, due to Derek being groomed, I truly believe he wouldn't start anything with Stiles until he was in college, maybe even waiting until after he graduates for good measure.
All shows have problematic content (especially teen shows lol), and considering s1 came out in 2011 and it being an MTV show, I'm not surprised that some things in it are considered dated. Some things are clearly there for the male gaze. Some things are romanticized that shouldn't be. Some things are said that in the present would get you canceled.
Overall, it's meant to be a fun teen drama mixed with horror. We are all here because we love the show and can come together to enjoy it together, even if we have different views. I have friends in the fandom that I don't agree with on everything. And that's ok! We aren't meant to all see things in the same way. I've seen so many different povs that have gotten me thinking, some even changing my opinion on things after thinking about it!
You two have said all that needs to be said, I'm just reblogging for a clarification on one thing -
@fuji09, if Derek is truly 22 in season 1 and we go by his fake ID, by season 3, he's still 22 and by season 4 he'd only be 23. By the end of the show he'd be 24.
Season 1 and 2 take place over 4 months, from like January 2nd or so to mid-April or so. Season 3 stars about 4 months later in late August. 3A and 3B all take place from like late August to late November.
Season 4 starts in early January again. Derek's birthday is either November 7th like it says on his ID or December 25th like what the official TW calendar gave us (which, was VERY inaccurate actually for most of the character's ages so I personally take that birthday with a grain of salt and generally just go with Nov. 7th myself. It just depends on your personal preference, I think, since we never got a solid date), so yeah his birthday is either late 3b or between season 3 and 4.
Whatever his ID said in season 3/4, it's a mistake. Or them aging him up *again* out of nowhere. His age is all over the place, so we gotta go with the best we have, which is most likely 21/22 ish at the start. 19 if we go by the pilot script.
Which, if we go by the age 22, 6 years ago what Kate did is still messed up, getting to him at 15/16 years old. Just not as horrible as him being 12/13 would have been. It's still absolutely predatory of Kate anyway. But also in 4x02 we get a de-aged Derek to before his family died (he asks where his family is in the episode) and he's the same actor for the 3x08 flashback from when he was 15, so it's safe to assume 15 is about when Kate got to him, maybe a few months after Paige died.
Anyway, in the episode this de-aged Derek from pre-fire knows Kate and trusts her, so we KNOW he was a teenager when all that went down, AND he was at school when the fire happened, he and Laura both (and if Laura is older, she'd have been 17 or 18 when the fire happened. Probably 18 as she'd be old enough to get custody of Derek. We know she had to have gotten custody because it was just the two of them with Peter out of commission.)
SO all that to say, with the context clues and all that, best age we have for Derek is him having just turned 22 at the start of the show. And the timeline of the show is only about 2 and a half years, so Derek is 24 at most by the end of season 6. He would not be 24 by season 3/4.
Cheers to all these replies!! Iāve never felt so excited to go back to an old show I never finished. Plus high-school-me bought Season One on iTunes, so clearly I had faith it. Not sure why I never continued, but that just means Adult-me now has five more new seasons to enjoy. And not to brag, but Iām basically the queen of shipping characters who never said more than three words to each other in canon, so I have no doubt Iām going to see what everyone else saw with Sterek. Who needs canon when we have AUs and confidence? Hell, I have an OTP from two different shows that never once had a crossover episode. I was built for this š¤
No but seriously, thanks so much for all these insights and thoughts - itās always so nice when fandoms come together like this and share their passion, knowledge, and thoughts with each other. Especially when the person asking is so out of the loop! I especially appreciate the age discussion - I did skim some of it to avoid overt spoilers of what seems like some pretty specific plot points, but otherwise is was so fun to read all of your thoughts about Derekās age.
Also the behind the scenes info was soooooo cute. I love that kind of stuff. It makes a show extra special when the actors themselves get behind something the fans care so much about. And I had no idea that Dylan was filming the Maze Runner during the show!!!
Iām going to have such a fun time live reacting to these episodes. I have a feeling some of you are going to be like āoh you sweet summer childā to some of my takes before more canon or context happens, but thatās half the fun of watching someone experience a show you love for the first time, isnāt it? I canāt wait š
