Not A Review 🌿Poem Text🌿 I'm not writing a year in review for 2022. It's not in an effort to slip away and forget it. It's just that if you know, you know. This past year is written in my cells and in my bones. There were some accomplishments accrued and arrayed in my internal album. Words I've written, groups I've gladly gathered, places I was honoured to be present. And there were times that took me away from the achievements and the actions That I would write in a review of 2022. They paled away to unimportance and at once were all I had to show — "This is me and my makings I immerse myself in These are the things that I know" and when I find a friend in someone new they don't see what seem to me to be some things that shape the scene in which I grow. The background on which I am painted pulls at the threads of my purpose, unnoticed. You don't introduce yourself by the holes around which you grow. I leave a margin note. What I carry into 2023 is a changed and grown version of me. Small things matter more than they should — Don't sit between me and my love on the wall. Don't force your feet between ours on the footpath. Those synchronised steps are the soft sadness of our souls stretching towards strength shared. Don't take my time in the company of my precious pen and push me to produce alternatives Those words are my window to another world where wishes went, and they are not wasted. Don't dismiss the words I've written that are not yet presented on a printed page. Perfecting them is a pure purpose that picks me up like a shell on the waves and takes me to hope. This my second piece from the 'Glimpses of Other Worlds' virtual exhibition, entitled 'Seeing Through.' Originally my concept for this piece was just the glimpses of others' lives that we get, never knowing their full story, but just things like the shadows on their curtains or voices that carry out into the street. I struggled to make the interior interesting with just shadows of figures, so I decided to add some mystery with the strange portal-like addition of an outdoor scene in one side of the window. I then layered some iridescent cellophane and tin foil behind cut-out sections of the scenes inside the window, so that we are literally 'seeing through' two layers of paper to the glinting background lights beneath. This illustration was incorporated into part 1 of the story 'Reset,' written by P.S.C. Willis, with part 2 being added by @charliemulderpoetess. First tea photography session with the 5D. I was getting really cross because I couldn't capture the beautiful rising steam, but I got a few nice shots of the cup all the same. First time out with the 5D attempting some wintery nature photography. It got too dark very quickly and I had a load of trouble focusing and not getting blurry shots which I didn't expect given I've been managing a malfunctioning autofocus for months! But all new gear takes some adjustment, and this time of year is a tricky time to start with very little light and lots of wind (and cold that can make me shivery haha). This piece is 'Miniature' – a reflection on the insight we get into the lives of creatures much smaller than ourselves when we look closely at the miniature worlds they inhabit.
