You don't have to force yourself to bounce back so quickly. I read something recently that said "when you come in from a rainstorm, you don't expect yourself to be dry and warm right away", and it really resonated with me. It's okay to take time to dry off and warm up. Take the time you need to process what happened to you.
I'm still thinking about the guy who saw me realize my wheelchair wouldn't fit in the elevator because he (also a wheelchair user) was already inside it and immediately quipped, "This elevator ain't accessible enough for the both of us."

I remember as a kid the nearby small town had a "computer expert" who had a full storefront and office. If someone bricked their computer or it loaded with viruses he'd factory reset it for them and try to get it working again. He'd also buy, refurbish, rest, and resell old computers. But the main thing he advertised was if people brought him a computer and a list of programs they wanted installed on it he'd get them all set up. Flat rate of like 20 bucks.
Didn't realize until I was older and like, looking back on some of the tech stuff my mom needed help with and knew more about how software is priced that he was pirating it. Guy had a whole business set up where people who didn't know how computers worked would pay him 20 bucks to install Microsoft Office on their laptop because it was cheaper than buying it in the store and they didn't want to be bothered with figuring out how to install programs even if they could afford them normally. Like that guy was practically printing money well into the early 2000s. Very good hustle. Only small business owner I respect.
Honestly if you say or do something strange, an employee probably WILL tell all their coworkers about it all day, however they’ll basically never remember it was you specifically and instead just a faceless “customer” amalgamation of every time someone said something to them. Plus you’re giving them enrichment and something to mutually bond over. So really you’re doing an important service by being a little awkward.
so like. ive had depression for over a decade now. im pretty sure im not going to like, *stop having it*. but i think its possible for that to be okay. i mean, obviously it sucks. but maybe it just sucks in the like, birth defect way. like it sucks to be born with an incurable birth defect but you gotta make piece with that, and you shouldnt like, kill yourself.
anyway, i think from this perspective, you gotta look the idea of people who die with depression in the face. and there are a bunch of cool people who die with depression, having it their whole life. some of whom did not kill themselves. and i think you have to think about these people, and figure out what made their life worthwhile
god isn't real but i think it can be helpful to conceive of yourself as one-half of a mutually antagonistic relationship with god. you cant let that asshole win, by you dying after not very much time. it seems to me that the depression is part of what makes the lives of incurably depressed people valuable, if that makes sense? like, it would be better if they werent incurably depressed. but given that they (we) are, the value of that life takes on a different nature. its not the same value of the other life, but less. it's a different thing. possibly every life is valuable in a different, particular way, and so the particular way will of course depend on important features of the person.
but okay, go with me, for the sake of argument, say the reason a depressed person's life is valuable is connected to their depression. then *how* is it connected to their depression. well, it seems to me, when you cant get enjoyment out of things, you have to do them for a different reason. and in general, the value of an act depends on how you felt, the reasons you did that action. so the depressed life is differently valuable because it's done for different reasons, is the theory. and that other raison d'etre is a valuable one. it leads to different priorities. and those different priorities arent necessarily better, but theyre differently valuable
weight of the world.
…okay so what if the problem with the taomeba never happened on the way back home. What if the radiation never got onto the Blip-A. What if Rocky ended up back on Erid, and Grace made it back to Earth. What if they missed each other desperately forever.
What if Grace made a lopsided crochet Rocky and cuddled it every night.
What if Rocky couldn’t stop making xenonite puppets of his alien friend.
What if I made myself cry, what about that? Huh? What then?

funny thing about anxiety is sometimes it kind of breaks your sense of danger. like i am known for repeatedly putting myself in situations that make my friends go "bro you couldve died. werent you scared?" and the answer is 👍 yjeah. i did it scared. i do everything scared. i didnt know that was the actual important kind of scary because i usually have to ignore my fears to function in society. it will happen again. watch out.
i wanna see more stories with a time skip epilogue where at least one character has clearly transed their gender and it isnt really remarked upon. bonus if none of them were remotely hinted to be trans until that moment because i think it'd be funny to watch a fandom react to that. your blorbo's happily ever after involves being a woman. dont worry about it.
