The thing I dislike about alt histories where real life monarchs have been made both gay and unproblematic is that it seems to imply that gay monarchs have not existed in history but if they did they would be cool. Which isn’t true. They have existed and they were just as bad as straight people. And I think it is disrespectful to real queer history to pretend that queer people have never been absolute bastards

If a person's friends are racist and they don't care because it doesn't impact them or they try to reframe their buddy's racist behavior as something else, they are also racist, okay? 🫶

Also if your friends are saying racist, antisemitic and otherwise heinously weird things about people, you may want to consider just not being their friends instead of just sending anons to the people they're talking about. 🫰

A lot of the notes in this post are to the effect of "But I should stay friends with them to change them. They need to be helped and changed." And that's fine if that's what you want. But, at a point, one has to accept that they have chosen to strive for the redemption and rehabilitation of a racist over making one's circle and one's life a safe space for BIPOC. And accept that, to many BIPOC, that decision may become a demonstration of their priorities and the value they attribute to people and communities.
