Stealing this from twitter but I liked the concept: put in the tags where were your 8 great-grandparents from (given modern borders) ?
cryptid sighting in norway again. #canadadown
Kyle knew he would be changing Sids environment so he sent him on a super challenging quest to go to Norway and find a Canadian license plate
.... shit he thought it would take Sid a bit longer than this
come on kyle, it’s sidney crosby. if you want to keep him busy you’ve got to send him to moscow and tell him he has to find geno but only by using echolocation.
cookie to philly???????????

i'm trying to organize my thoughts on this.
i struggle to have any sympathy for people who use ai for fanwork. i also think these witch hunts are giving people an “ethical” excuse to be mean. i think we’ve let consumerism and capitalism infect fandom, and this is the inevitable result. i think the erosion of fandom as a community opened the door for this, but these people made the deliberate choice to step through it. i think the why matters and should be the focus of the conversation, but i also think it's equally important that we don't let the reasons excuse or normalize the actions.
i think the relentless call outs and the immediate memeification of everything, the fics and authors who use ai becoming running mean girl jokes, is only furthering the degradation of fandom, and creates a space that feels unsafe for someone new to create without the crutch of ai. i can empathize with people not being sure how to form connections other than through producing content people will talk about. the root problem is that everyone is hungry for community, but we've lost sight of what that means and how to build it.
i don't think i can find any sympathy for the people who loudly professed to be against AI and used it anyway, or those who doubled down after being called out months ago and wrote treatises about being victimized. that's deliberate deception and manipulation and cannot be excused or enabled.
i'm conflicted, all of my thoughts are contradictory, but i guess that's human. and i guess if i have any clear stance it's that i think the only productive way to approach this issue is as humans capable of nuance and not moral litigators. our focus needs to be on working the problem, not meting out punishment.
last night I kept thinking about the big AI fic hunt that's going on at the moment and how it just made me feel sad. I suppose it's because I can empathize to some degree. When I was a kid and I first got involved with online fan communities I wanted so badly to belong (like all kids do) and I saw the response that talented artists and writers got. I was drawing all the time back then, but I wasn't a skilled artist and the few things I posted would be ignored. Since I was also tracing other people's art a lot (did everyone do that too?) I uploaded some of those, which looked so much better in my opinion. When somebody kind of called me out on that by saying that I should mark my art as traced, I felt so ashamed. And I'm glad they pointed this out without making it sound like I was a bad person because of it. The point is, I didn't want to harm anyone or steal from anyone, although of course it was a kind of stealing from the original artist, and it was deceiving. But if someone had called me out publically, or called me a liar, or kept commenting on it, I don't think I would have been able to stay in any fandom community after it. So, I get why people are frustrated about it because it's frustrating to feel lied to, and I get that people are afraid about what the popularity of AI will do to creative fanworks, but I want to posit that so far, it doesn't look like writers and artists are creating fewer original works. And I want to gently caution people that when you feel like someone is now an acceptable target for outrage and shaming, we tend to easily fall into this mob mentality because it feels good and righteous to do so. I'm not saying to just ignore AI created fanworks when they are falsely presented as original, but maybe we can take a moment to weigh the harm of that against the harm of publically shaming another person, and adjust our reaction accordingly. As I said, this reflection was prompted by me feeling sad about this whole situation. I think that sadness stems from the fact that I can understand the general motivation people have to cheat when it comes to their creative fanworks, and I don't think it's a new problem in fan spaces. It sucks! It sucks to feel deceived and to have to be constantly vigilant against deception. But maybe that's not so much the fault of any individuals in fandom and maybe public shaming is not actually making fandom enjoyable for anyone involved.
please elaborate on your thoughts on wag labor if you feel comfortable. i also have many thoughts on this subject…
wellll not to be the friend that's too woke and also not to reiterate stuff ive already yapped about on discord but the whole framework of hockey mom -> billet mom -> older teammate's wife -> getting ur own wag -> she has ur kids and becomes their hockey mom.... chilling. its own form of time being a flat circle. anndddd it's an almost seamless pipeline that can be stitched together such that these dudes feasibly never really have to go without domestic labor from the women in their lives
also as much as we talk about the reinforcement and performance of masculinity in (m)hrpf, mens hockey is also very very much about a certain kind of female role and a certain brand of femininity for the women in their lives. the uniformity of physical appearance in their partners with very few exceptions... a real madonna-whore complex of Wife vs roadie hookups or Girlfriend Material vs puck bunnies. tate mccrae being the amy dunne Cool Girl who likes Sports so she became a safe acceptable answer for celebrity crush for all of them. et ceteraaa ad nauseammmm
anyway some recommended reading for the class: isles socials ask the players who does your laundry. let's all sit with this a bit
bet sid’s feeling really fuckin old tonight
things could be worse. a player you like could be traded for a used team bus

there’s very little correlation between being a good player and being a good leader.
I keep seeing tweets that maybe don’t know the rules for offer sheets, so I just wanted to make a post explaining it. it’s not the same as a regular trade!!! it’s more like a kidnapping situation where the kidnappers pay a ransom.
hypothetically, if ottawa gave robo an offer sheet, dallas wouldn’t get to decide whether to accept. if robo decided to accept ottawa’s offer, the stars would have the option to either match the offer or take compensatory draft picks from ottawa. restricted free agents under 27 are eligible for offer sheets, so this may also happen with mavrik bourque this year.
given that the stars don’t have a lot of cap space to work with, they could potentially be forced to make a trade to free up cap space in order to match an rfa offer sheet.
I thought this was a good breakdown. (Ignore the thumbnail it’s mostly clickbait. It’s likely people could offer sheet bourque but there’s logistical complications to doing so which the video discusses)
If you tl;dw the video, a thing to note about Offer Sheets is it is not a trade. Based on the salary on the sheet, there is specific predetermined return. It also has to be your own picks. Those first and second rounders ottawa just picked up from florida? They can’t be used in an offer sheet.
Also have a puckpedia link
An offer sheet is a contract offered to a restricted free agent (RFA) by a team other than the player's current team. If the player signs th
