Sidney Crosby scores, spears and loses teeth in an eventful game
Staff | Sportsnet | March 21, 2017
It was an eventful night for Sidney Crosby.
First, the bad.
A little less than five minutes into the Penguins-Sabres game, the Sabres had control in Pittsburgh’s zone and centre Ryan O’Reilly was trying to find some open ice in front of the net. Behind him, Crosby swooped into the slot and gave O’Reilly a nice whack with the stick to the groin area, dropping O’Reilly to the ice and leading to a Penguins chance the other way. No penalty.
“Sid you’re in trouble,” said Sabres play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret.
A few minutes later, Sabres defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen blew up Jake Guentzel with a brutal hit as the Penguins forward never saw him and the puck never made it to him either. There was some question of how much of this was payback for Crosby’s shot on O’Reilly, or if it was just an accident from a player anticipating a big hit. Either way, Ristolainen looked locked for destruction, for which he got five minutes, a game misconduct, and a possible suspension.
Next, the good.
Crosby scored on a highlight reel play that should stand up as a goal of the year candidate. And it’s amazing for a few reasons. First, watch as Crosby carries the puck through the neutral zone without anyone on him, and slows to a glide as he looks for a spot to break into. Nothing good can come from giving someone like Crosby time and space.
When he sees an opening, Crosby hits the jets and catches all of the Sabres defenders flat-footed as he blazes across the blue line, splits the defencemen, and goes in for a one-on-one chance against Robin Lehner in the dying seconds of the first period.
But the best part of all? The goal was scored with one hand.
And finally, the ugly.
Late in the game, while trying to score his second goal into an empty net, Crosby took an Evander Kane high stick to the mouth, for which the Sabres forward picked up four minutes. Sure, Crosby may have sold the play a bit, throwing his head back and losing a glove as he fell to the ice. But — it was certainly solid contact, as you’ll see it knocked a few teeth out of Crosby’s head.
“Uhhhhh, OK, I’ll let it go…but…” Jeanneret said.
If he had scored there, Crosby would have moved back into a tie with Connor McDavid for the league points lead.
Instead? He gets a trip to the dentist’s chair.
A lot happned to Crosby Tuesday in a 3-1 win over the Sabres that kept them one point back of Washington for the Metropolitan Division lead, as the Capitals won their game 4-2 over Calgary.
this photo of geno is so... whoa........

At first, it was an arranged marriage.
Thanks to the way the ping-pong balls bounced in the NHL draft lottery process, Crosby and Malkin were thrust together into the Penguins lineup about (2)0 years ago whether they liked it or not.
As it turns out, they liked it. x x

the thing is I am pro-rpf on principle, but I do think you should keep it away from the actual people you're shipping. but it is NOT out of concern for their comfort (insert pete wentz bank account post), it's for the same reason that like animal behaviorists and field biologists and such try to stay out of view when they're observing animals in the wild. don't tip them off it's gonna to skew the results of my study.
i can't believe people use ai to "research" (make shit up for them) when the real rush is tediously looking up minor, obscure details that have no real bearing on the actual fic you're attempting to outline but do allow you to procrastinate on doing any actual work
every time i see a girl pop a zyn im like nooooooooooooo [dropping to my knees] ur so sexy [beating the ground with my fists] don’t ruin it [sobbing uncontrollably] ha ha, and every time i see a man do it im just like of course you would, you foul disgusting creature, i expected no better of you.
omega fuck room has unfortunately entered my vocabulary.
h*ated r*valry not only did irreparable damage to fandom containment but also introduced a bunch of people to sports rpf who do not get the premise of either sports or rpf

hey everyone, just curious:
what is everyone's criteria for blocking people?
manthony you could have been our angle, but yuo became a devil... 😢
The latest public data shows 19 of 20 NHL players studied at the Boston University CTE Center, including Bobby Hull, Ralph Backstrom, Stan Mikita, Bob Probert, and Derek Boogaard have had CTE. Those diagnoses were reported in a December 2024 BU study that found the odds of developing CTE increased by 34% for each year of hockey played. Despite the research, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman still refuses to acknowledge the link between playing in the NHL and developing CTE. “The NHL can do better to protect its players’ safety,” said Anne Byers. “Athletes deserve to know what head injuries can do so they can make informed decisions about their bodies and work in an environment that supports their health first.” [May 28, 2026]
Men developing crow’s feet at the corners of their eyes as they get older and/or maybe needing reading glasses when they hadn’t before…. Very dangerous. Do not picture it with your faves. Or at least know you’re doing it at your own risk. Dangerous.
you’re telling me we got the mid brother for $3M as bait and it didn’t even work. kyle can you please do something, i’m bored.
