Itâs also like, black americans are indigenous in various ways that nonblack people canât even comprehend.
we are displaced indigenous peoples to africa. but our culture here in america is so unique and tied to this land that we can also be considered indigenous here--if that is what we want. by this, i donât mean in the same way native americans are (because they are the original people here). i mean that, our culture, heritage, ethnic group, traditions as black americans exists here in america. our ancestors and communities formed completely new ethinc groups and identities here in america because we had to start from nothing. even though our identity as african americans is relatively young and even new, we can still be considered indigenous to america as well. no other group has formed here the same way we have.
