I didn’t expect a text saying “the food is there” to mean much, but it did.

It was an hour and a half before my lunch.

I spent that time thinking of her more than the food.

A few weeks ago, I texted her at work. That’s what we do. I asked her what she had for lunch and she told me she had been too busy to eat. So I ordered her food. And when it arrived I told her what I did. You don’t always know how you make someone feel until they make you feel it back.

“If there is violence in the process of waging a revolution, that will be determined by the ruling class.”

This wasn’t about inclusion as an afterthought. It was about ownership. Black women presenting themselves fully, without distortion, and forcing a broader public to confront what had long been denied.

We fed folks that were unhoused. And folks who came out their apartments just to come to us.
