Interesting thing I thought of—what about some headcanons for a Reader who is the adopted child of Elias (and has a bit of a rocky relationship with him—but it isnt too bad), but sees Jon as a slightly healthier father figure (can be for any reason—but I see it as they're just so deprived of a non-evil dad figure that they become easily attached to most of the other adults in the Magnus Archives)?
You dont have to do this, but I thought it could be cool 👀

• You’d always been a curious child. Maybe that was why no foster home ever wanted you around for long- too many questions about things that were “none of your concern” according to your guardians.
• Even your teachers found you to be a bit much. Too many questions that went far deeper than what they were qualified to teach. They thought you were trying to seem smart or talk back, but you were genuinely curious.
• You weren’t sure how but eventually you stopped needing to ask as often and you just started… Knowing things about other people, and eventually a story about you got back to the Magnus Institute and suddenly you were adopted by a man who claimed he could help you focus your ‘talent’, as he framed it.
•At first it was like heaven on Earth. Surrounded by infinite knowledge of a whole world you knew nothing about. Despite the starts, though, it quickly became apparent Elias wanted to use you for something.
• You figured this was still better than running away or any other alternative you’d come up with, though, so you begrudgingly continued on as normal, though you started to show visible distaste when he introduced you as his child.
• When the archival department got an overhaul, you were sent down there under the official title of intern, but Elias actually wanted to put his two avatars in training in a similar area to see how your progress would rub off on one another.
• Jon would push you away at first, you were not one of the individuals you requested, and he believed that between your age and relation to Elias you would likely hold him back.
• Still, though, he liked you better than Martin and you learned new things easily enough. You also had been able to answer some of his questions about Gertrude’s filing systems (or lack there of).
• You were the one to spread the word about the worms’ weakness to fire extinguishers. Jon certainly took you more seriously after that. He’d begun to see you from a new perspective, that if you were Elias’ child, if only adopted, you probably had some experience in ‘true’ paranormal activity and what it looked like.
• He would ask for your opinions on if a statement was real or not if he couldn’t make up his mind, and you’d say what you thought before providing evidence to back it up (though you didn’t share anything about the fears just yet. You didn’t want him to think you were crazy)
• When Gertrude’s body was discovered in the tunnels you were dumbfounded. You’d never been close with her, but you were far from strangers. Elias had never even told you about the tunnels before.
• You weren’t sure how exactly he was, but you Knew that Elias had something to do with her body being down there. You stopped going by his last name after that.
• Jon pulled away from you during his era of paranoia. It hurt, but you couldn’t blame him. Besides, you already had a copy of the key to get down there. You just Knew where Elias kept it and made a copy. (He was aware you did this, but let you get away with it because it developed your powers).
• One time you and Jon ran into one another in the tunnels and nearly killed each other. Somehow, though, through all of the yelling and mutual fear, you found yourselves growing closer to one another.
• Maybe something made you open up to him, and maybe he believed you, but you two agreed to stick together while exploring and he stopped accusing you of trying to murder him after that.
• You still wouldn’t tell him about the fears quite yet, but there was a newfound closeness between the two of you, and you’d find yourself spending more time with him than nearly anyone else.
• You’d bring him food and tea and would stop Tim from murdering him.
• He’d always welcome you into his office, and although he’s normally averse to touch, you’d be allowed to grab onto him for a hug or cuddle if you needed it.
• You’d go to him instead of Elias if you needed help with schoolwork. In the past you’d either figure it out yourself or get your adoptive father to help, but now you’d occasionally go in with homework even if you didn’t need help with it, just so he’d pay more attention to you.
• You’d vent all of your frustrations to him. Him, being a developing avatar, would certainly be hungry for the knowledge, and would insist you keep going if you felt bad for it.
• It was an odd sensation for the both of you. Seeing yourself so clearly in another person. That urge to belong with this person and be their family. It was strange, but it felt like home.
